McCain, Campaign Finance, Michigan

So John McCain's pulling out of Michigan, ostensibly because he doesn't have the cash to compete. Senator Obama's money raising machine has been in overdrive for months, and he appears to have the money he needs to accomplish his goals.

There is no end of irony to the possibility that Senator McCain may be hoist by his own petard. His campaign finance "reform" hurt Republicans more than it hurt Democrats, and his gallant (though ill-advised) commitment to public financing (while Senator Obama walked away from it) has left him having to husband his resources while Senator Obama spends freely.

Throwing a yellow flag on this one. Obama pulled resources out of Georgia, North Dakota and Montana last month. How is this different? Why did no one suggest this indicated impending doom for him at that time? Michigan was going to be hard to turn red anyway. If he can hold on to the Bush states, which I fully recognize is getting increasingly difficult, he'll be okay.

Sally---huge difference between folding your tent in states where you don't have a prayer, and conceding a battleground state. Huge difference.

I disagree. Michigan was looking blue from the beginning. I agree they should have given it a week or two, and sent Todd Palin up north to talk to the snowmobilers. But if your polling, internal and otherwise, is telling you it's going to be a long shot, wouldn't you put your resources into defending Bush states?
