I liked it, quite a bit of it. The call for responsibility was a good one, and the challenge to Islamofascists was right on. As Mudge said in an email, neither John McCain nor either Clinton could have given that speech...it was the right tone, the right words from the right guy.
President Obama is a riveting speaker....but I do believe the sing-song, Sunday-sermon like meter will wear thin after a while.

Around here work doesn't stop for coronations. I expect I'll have to read the text later tonight. I'm too busy trying to generate revenue so my partners and I can "pitch in" to "move the country forward" with the pass through personal Subchapter S tax bite.
Glad to hear it was a good speech. Now let's see them get to work.

I'm in California for a big corporate hoo-ha. Everything stopped for "the speech". This is no little shakes stuff, either.
"...I do believe the sing-song, Sunday-sermon like meter will wear thin after awhile"- especially after the $200M Inaugural pricetag and accompanying galas make his words of shared sacrifice and responsibility ring a litle hollow.
We stopped a VTC with FORSCOM HQ to watch the Oath of Office (by the way, I have Second Lieutenants who read the Oath of Enlistment better than Chief Justice Roberts did his oath) and Inaugural speech. Kind of cool that the Army HQ responsible for providing the forces going to Afghanistan and Iraq would stop a VTC, mid-stream, to watch our new boss take office.
By the way, we thought the VTC would be over by the time the Inauguration took place.
DAn - I'm actually more impressed that you were able to witness a VTC that remained "up" for that long.
