My Congressman Feels The Heat

Here's a portrait of my Congressman, Frank Kratovil. Kratovil is a Democrat who won a seat previously held for several terms by a Republican (Wayne Gilchrest). Gilchrest had been defeated in the Republican primary by Andy Harris, who burnished his conservative credentials proudly, knocking off the Republican In Name Only (RINO) Gilchrest, who went on to endorse the Democrat Kratovil in the general race.

The Eastern Shore is often referred to as a Republican area, but the presence of Gilchrest for so many years, and now the election of Kratovil makes me wonder. It's actually pretty much down the middle, though John McCain did take the congressional district in the presidential race.

Kratovil is pursuing a very risky strategy, but probably the only one he can. His cherry picking of votes and his inconsistent support for the Obama program are designed to show his independence and his fiscal smarts. But it all depends on what audience he's speaking to. More conservative audiences are treated to a diary of his independence, those who might benefit more from the "stimulus" bill get treated to a run-down of the goodies contained therein.

Andy Harris is gearing up for another run in 2010. I went to a few Harris events, and I voted for him, but I don't think he's got what it takes to unseat Kratovil. I'll keep my powder dry for 2012.....

Planning on running in 2012? That'd be fun.

I want you to define what exactly makes up a "RINO"? Is it the Republican leadership for the past 8 years that showed zero point zip fiscal responsibility? You know, the ones that lined up behind the President and let the cost of war sky rocket while not even considering asking the citizens of this nation to pay for it? How about the ones that let the President go on this spending spree, because honestly I have seen more crap bought by the Services with GWOT supplemental funding then you can shake a stick at, and did not ask any questions about how we pay for this.

What about the "conservative Republicans" that knowing the cost of war was going through the roof continued to spend like drunken sailors.

Boehner, McConnell et al can go take a hike. Every time I hear one of these pinhead spout "taxcuts" I have gag back down my last meal.

Face it, Republicans don't have a clue on how to deal with the current situation, in fact, had they shown any inclination toward governance instead of "ruling" they may have prevented it.

Give me a republican who talking about fiscal discipline, not tax cuts and I will vote for him/her. Stop trying to use issues that truly don't affect most Americans daily lives (gays, abortion, guns) to stake a claim. It was pretty apparent on November 4th that those issues don't play too well any more.
