Patriotism and Public Schools

Do you recall the North Carolina teacher last fall berating a fifth-grader for supporting McCain in a mock election? She told the bewildered student that McCain would keep her daddy in Iraq for 100 years. Leave aside the life expectancy questions that statement raises, it's beyond appalling that this even occurred.

But check out this story of a Kansas teacher fired for some highly suspect reasons. My favorite is 'his teacher webpage is too patriotic.'

Perhaps there's more to this story. It's certainly plausible, though, isn't it.

Conservatives in education are lonely folks....

So are conservatives in Hollywood, but I doubt any of them have ever lost jobs because of it.

I'm sure the ACLU will be all over this case.

suggesting the teacher’s page was “too patriotic.”

I wish this was a misprint.

What would these people have done with Nathan Hale or Patrick Henry?

God save the United States of America; if it is not already too late.

Sally, your last sentence was tongue-in-cheek, I hope. Yeah, that'll happen. ACLU to the rescue of a conservative male...if I'm wrong and it actually does happen, at least we'll solve global warming with the fires of hell being quenched by all that ice.
