Press Slowly Figures Out Obama's Duplicity on Taxes

Watch this little video, as the President's spokesman squirms before President Obama's Greek chorus, a.k.a the Washington Press Corps. Hat tip: Instapundit

Now--many of you know that I am in favor of taxing health benefits as regular wages (and then providing families with a considerable tax credit on the back end) as a way of 1) breaking the tie between work and health care coverage and 2) spurring a more market based health-care system in which individuals are both empowered to choose AND incentivized to live more healthy lives.

I'm glad that President Obama is considering this option among the many seemingly on the table in his health care agenda.

But the plain truth of the matter is that he savaged McCain on this. Watching his spokesman flutter in the wind on this is somewhat satisfying.

Of course, acknowledging this little slight policy shift might make Obama's rank and file a little peeved, in the spirit of transparency and bi-partisanship, I'd like to to see him eat a little crow publicly.

"Let me be clear....while fundamentally disagreed with Senator McCain's idea on the campaign trail, ah ah ah it seems as though the facts have proven otherwise. Ah ah it looks like - mumbles something that sounds like "taxing" - health benefits is necessary for us to effectively address this crisis. Look, I'm sorry. He was right, ah ah ah I was wrong."

He ought to be man enough to admit he's wrong and not send his press secretary out to be the fall guy.
