Olympia Snowe Caves on Healthcare

Olympia Snowe cast her vote with the Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee today. I'm not surprised. She's interested in keeping her seat in a heavily Democratic state in a heavily Democratic region.

But Chris Cillizza of the WaPost has it all wrong when he thinks that the Obama Administration can use Snowe's vote to cudgel wavering Dems like Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln.

Nelson (Nebraska) and Lincoln (Arkansas) are from states that went for McCain over Obama by 15% and 20% respectively. Neither has anything to fear from the White House.

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-WA) on her “yes” vote on the Baucus bill:

"Is this bill all that I want? Far from it. Is it all that it can be? Far from it. But when history calls, history calls."

Can't argue with that logic.

Senator Snowe was also a "yes" on the stimulus.

Senator Snowe like almost every other Republican senator from the northeast is an
archetypical RINO (Republican in Name Only).

When history calls it is like being called upon in school; it only counts when you provide the correct answer.

Sorry Olympia you failed.

Hey GG, Olympia is a town in Washington, Sen. Snowe is from Maine.

Anyhoo, lots of disappointment but no big surprise. All the Dems want is cover. They've got the votes if they can keep the Arkansas Senators (and a couple more) in line but they want a fall guy just in case.

Just goes to prove my theory, there is nothing worse than a Republican pragmatist. They're like a drunk prom date, you can talk them into anything.
