Here's a look at Frank Kratovil, (D-MD1). His vote against healthcare played well in these parts, but his support of the stimulus and cap/trade--not so much.
He won by 3000 votes in a district that went for John McCain by 18 points--so powerful is the "but he's from around here (Eastern Shore)" bloc. His opponent in 2008--Republican Andy Harris--is a "Western Shore" guy--and an unexciting candidate (he's the odds-on Republican challenger for this year's race).
Kratovil has performed about as well as one could ask a Democrat to perform during his term...but that's not saying much.

Glenn Nye in VA-02 is not dissimilar to your guy. He did, though, vote against health care, cap and trade AND the stimulus...and he still has only a 50-50 shot at retaining his seat. I almost feel bad for the guy; he's cast the right votes but will likely be punished in November for the D after the name.
You know who will punish him? Democrats--at least those more liberal than he.
He should simply switch parties and keep voting the way he does.
Glenn Nye's got a loyal GoP following, at least among the people I pal around with, her on the shore. Every one of us at breakfast today, conservatives all, agree he has our vote in November. The guys got courage, integrity and smarts. Yeah, CW, I guess that is three strikes regarding the crowd you're talking about.
The reason he voted against Obamacare was he was allowed by the leadership. It sounds like he's in a swing district and he needed to vote no.
Perriello is in a way more conservative district in Virginia and he didn't vote no. Why didn't the leadership give HIM a pass?
Good for you Mudge. But if his GOP opponent can successfully tie Nancy Pelosi around his neck, he's toast.
