What I'm Doing on Summer Vacation

Well, I'd fully planned on relaxing by my pool this year for a "Stay-cation", but the renovation has lagged and there's nothing but flags in the ground where the pool should be.

The Kitten/Kittens are headed up to New England later this week to reconnect with the kids' late father's family and friends. They are a great bunch of people and they welcome me with open arms, but I figured I might do something else with a little vacation time.

Thought about getting a room at a resort down on the North Carolina coast and relaxing....been there, done that.

And so, on Sunday, I'm flying to Des Moines, Iowa, where I'll spend the following week doing whatever it is Mitt Romney's Iowa State Director tells me to do.  That's right--I'm gonna be a campaign volunteer.  Sally's efforts in support of John McCain last time around inspired me--and I figure I need to establish some bona fides by doing something other than just giving money.

Now, this is a bit of an error on my part, as the Iowa Straw Poll is the day before I arrive--and Mitt's spending time there THIS week and not next.  He'll be in New Hampshire most of next week.  But I've always wanted to visit Iowa, and so that's where I'll go.

I'll do a quite a bit of blogging while I'm there, so you won't miss out on the experience.

Wow, I feel your excitement! Man that's gonna be a good time! Those Iowa people are wild and crazy but just be careful!

Hey, maybe in your spare time you can catch a tractor-pull or a watermelon eating contest.

Don't listen to Hammer, that is exciting! Getting to be part of the team, AND a visit to the heartland. It's a win-win!

Maybe you can work on strategy for quick-response to attacks. Politico's lead story today is 'Obama strategy: destroy Romney.'

This year will probably be when I start volunteering, as well. My days of going door-to-door pretty much ended when my church mission did, but I'd be proud to help elect the next president of the United States.

I guess this constitutes an official CW endorsement of Mr. Romney. I know people have been holding back waiting to see who you'll endorese.
