Sounds like he is lying to me.
Oh wait he hasn't spoken yet. :)

but then, what's the diff?

Let's play a drinking game tonight. Words/phrases to look for: 'if you're happy with your plan you can keep it,' '47 million Americans,' 'deficit-neutral,' 'it's not about me,' or any form of the word 'inheritance.' What am I missing?

..... said...

"fundamental"
"let me be clear"

sally said...

Starting off by patting himself on the back. I didn't think he'd invoke the Great Depression line so early.

sally said...

Another campaign speech.

sally said...

Well, four minutes in and we're all drunk already. He's hit nearly everything.

sally said...

Am I all by myself here? It's not as fun.

..... said...

let me be clear!

the wahoo needs you to hold the line... :)

..... said...

your pre-approved questions...

sally said...

Slamming Republicans. Will any reporter have the temerity to ask him why he's slamming them when he doesn't need a single Republican vote to pass this?

sally said...

Did you notice how he paused after the 'I like my ideas best' line? He was waiting for applause. No applause cometh

..... said...

primarily...so what about co-equally or secondarily. sounds like he's not ruling it out.

..... said...

maybe we could capture the waste from the ARRA. oh wait...

sally said...

I don't think he's helping his cause that much here.

..... said...

like the Stimulus.

sally said...

Now he'll trot out the story of every sad situation in America.

sally said...

How many people are saying 'the status quo works for me' ?

..... said...

but didn't I read that health care changes would start to take hold until 2011? and full effect until late the next decade?
so two or three months is too much time. Get it right! but do it now!

sally said...

What a load of crap! Does he think we buy that he won't sign a bill that adds to the deficit?

..... said...

He's taking criticisms? Can he give me a specific criticism of the opposition?

..... said...

Was there anything specific in what he just said?

sally said...

Not one single person in that room has the balls to ask him a tough question.

Well, maybe Helen Thomas.

sally said...

Thank you Professor Obama. Now just answer the question.

..... said...

if we just use CFLs in the waiting room..

sally said...

WAY TO GO CHUCK TODD!!

sally said...

'He's not blaming Republicans?' You have to be kidding me

..... said...

let's remember to dig into the nature of these 160 amendments

sally said...

Oh, NOW he's Mr. Bipartisan, praising Republicans for their good ideas.

He's such a phony.

sally said...

What in the world was that answer to Jake Tapper?

sally said...

Are multiple tests really the problem with health care? REALLY?

sally said...

Can anyone follow this red pill blue pill argument?

Excuse me-Robert Thorn, can you follow this argument?

sally said...

The reason they're using the argument to push back on health care is because it's a very valid argument.

I can't believe he's still touting the stimulus as a success.

..... said...

I think he wants us to take blue pill that keeps us in the Obamatrix

sally said...

Again I ask you Mr. President-WHO advocated doing nothing?

..... said...

based on your budget gimmicks, such as projecting that we were going to spend as much for overseas contingencies as we did at the peak of the surge. so since you didn't spend the money that we weren't going to spend anyway, you call it savings?

..... said...

CBO doesn't think as designed it will lower it.

sally said...

Inherited - at least 6 times now.

'We haven't reduced the deficit as much as I'd like.'

Yes, you've really attempted to do so, haven't you.

sally said...

Great question about C-Span negotiations. I forgot about that campaign promise.

sally said...

people may not be talking about the economy falling off a cliff, but you sure trot it out at every opportunity

Anonymous said...

a little balance question for the group -- did you question GWB's decision to invade Iraq like you are questioning BHO's health care proposals? I suggest party ideaology prevents a balanced view of two potentially bad situations. Read your attacks; i am not saying they aren't potentially true, but consider being objective. Joe

sally said...

Help me understand this-why should someone feel shame to take a bonus?

sally said...

Joe, this press conference is about the President's health care plan, so that is what we're discussing tonight.

..... said...

I did. In fact, I think this is on some level a repeat of the rush to go in.
I don't fault him for his desire to reform. I fault him for rushing, not really including the other side in crafting a solution. And I fault him for him for being vague. I fault him for using strawmen in his rhetoric. I fault him for not being truthful that the ultimate aim of providing a public option is as a foot in the door for a single payer option.

Smoothfur said...

I guess my initial post under anoymous was correct.

Sounds like he is lying to me.
Oh wait he hasn't spoken yet. :)

but then, what's the diff?

..... said...

if you are going to invoke Mayo, shouldn't you mention their concerns about the current state of plans?

..... said...

yes!

..... said...

what a crap question to end on. Really?

sally said...

why, WHY are we talking about that 'racial profiling' case?

sally said...

Good, the personal biography. No Obama speech is complete without it.

Anonymous said...

Sally, your hatred of the individual and for someone's ideology is palpable and seriously detracts from your arguments. I was merely pointing out the double standard of your ideology -- regardless of subject. Joe

..... said...

I'm had hoped that we would have heard some really tough questions, along the lines of what Keith Hennessey suggested http://keithhennessey.com/2009/07/21/20-questions/

I didn't feel like I got that. Like most politicians, he used the questions to talk about related items on his agenda. That's press conference 101.

Overall: Disappointing.

sally said...

Joe, it would be a little difficult to point out the 'double standard' of my ideology since you have zero idea of what criticism I may have directed toward Obama's predecessor.

I fervently disagree with Obama's ideology. I can't argue with that contention of yours, nor do I apologize for it.

..... said...

I hope that he is called to task for totally sidestepping the transparency question. This isn't the first criticism either. CQ Weekly did a big piece on the topic and it wasn't all that flattering. Will see if I can post tomorrow.

Sally

Please tell me you are joking. I didn't see the conference. They brought up the case of that stupid Harvard professor?

Did they blame THAT on Bush also?

sally said...

You missed it? What were you thinking? Obama answered by saying 'I don't have all the facts' but closed out his answer with 'the Cambridge police acted stupidly.' (But you don't have all the facts...)
Still, his answer wasn't as stupid as the question.

Tom de Plume said...

Thanks for the update Sally, i was able to catch the clips on the news this morning.

I think the Gates case should serve as a reminder to us all; the police will arrest you if you are an asshole.

And I reached the above conclusion through the same analytical process used when considering my support of the invasion of Iraq and my opposition to Obamacare.
