The writer hit the nail on the head with her closing comment; "the cruel fact may prove to be that more American voters can identify with the dreams of the white girl from the frontiers than the black man from the Washington beltway." Unfortunately the condition of our econonomy was not factored in at the time of her writing so she did not consider the American voter's penchant to fall for Obama's promises of something for nothing.
To smoothfur - almost makes me wonder how hugo chavez would fare in this election. almost a shame he isn't running as an independent. he would clearly steal enough of obama's votes to seal the deal for the gop. no matter that he isn't eligible, every single voter who would vote for him has probably never read a word of the constitution and in the rare case that he or she had, it wouldn't matter; he or she would still throw his or her vote away for the promise of free money courtesy of a robin hood economy.

Time will tell; President Bush is certainly doing everything he can to get McCain elected by working his butt off on the economy...time will tell.
