That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it's FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY. Here's where you write in and pontificate on whatever it is you wish. Like last week, I'll cut and paste particularly worthy and interesting posts as threads of their own for further comment. Let 'er rip!
There is lots of speculation as to the meaning of Joe Biden's cryptic message to Obama supporters at a fundraiser a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteThe gist of his rample went something like this - "Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy...I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate. And he's gonna need help. And the kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you - not financially to help him -we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right."
As Joe is privvy to some pretty sensitive state information, do you think he was referring to a specific event on the immediate horizon? What do you suppose it might be?
Some conservative commentators have opined that it might be a controversial shift in current policy - something to the effect of a unilateral disbanding of our nuclear arsenal or the immediate draw down of troops from Iraq.
But I think Joe may be referring to something antithetical to Obama's position of using diplomacy as weapon of choice in foreign policy. I think this may play out in one of two ways: 1) we strike Iran's nuclear facilities, either direct military action or coordinated effort with Israel; or, 2) we send troops into Sudan.
What do you think?
Sorry, can't talk about it. Too busy getting ready to deploy to Iran.

ReplyDeleteI do hope you made captain before Forrest Gump hit the theatres in 1994.

ReplyDeleteSince leaving Iraq, disbanding our nukes, and a Sudan rescue mission would be supported by Obamunists, I wouldn't agree they would be Joe's scenarios.
But I really think that Biden is just playing the odds. Obamunists believe that the world will love us on November 5 or January 21 and they will soon realize that the Islamic world's (at least) hatred for us goes back to pre-Bush days. Pre-Washington days too.
Biden realizes that his revolutionaries are the Sesame Street, short attention span, instant gratification generation. They are not going to get the improvement they want (though He hedges his bets by only promising "change") and Biden realizes that previous revoltions (e.g. French and Russian) eventually resulted in unpleasant consequences for some of it's leaders.
Since there is a bit of a nautical theme that threads its way through the blog on a frequent basis I thought I would throw a little Sailor Jerry on the fire. For those of you that are ardent Capt Morgan drinkers you owe it to yourself to taste a real spiced rum and one that makes the Capt out to be a landlubber.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the meaning of (besides drinking) of the term "Splice the Mainbrace"? Any of you old salts ever spliced the mainbrace? Sad that Rum got replaced by Coffee after the war of northern aggression.
What is the deal with the "Al Smith Dinner"?
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago we were treated to clips from the annual event which supports Catholic Charities and seems to have some connection to the Church.
Barack Obama was an invited guest and historically and currently politicians of both parties attend. Yet the Democrats are pro-choice or pro-abortion; however you want to desctibe it.
Why are Democrats permitted to attend? Is it because monies raised goes to a good cause so God can overlook their abortion stance for one night?
If the Church is considering bringing back selling indulgences, let us know. I'm a bottom line type of guy and I'm glad the Lord is too.
Relative to both candidate's discussions and proposals on health care reform, when will someone start discussing the relative unhealthiness of the American population? I would expect to hear some discussion about how we need to improve the overall health of our citizens if we want to improve the costs involved in our convoluted health care system.
ReplyDeleteWhat much of the discussions fail to address is that healthy individuals are constantly penalized by the unhealthy habits of the masses. This is what we need to address as a country if we want to see long-term improvement with our health care system.
By the way, I see the Weekly Standard posed the same question on its blog (Crisis Watch). They seem to feel a Russion invasion of Ukraine is in the works.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is going to be one busy little bee.
I have a recommendation once Obama is elected and provides universal health care from my tax dollars. We should allow the fit people to scream like Drill Sergeants at the fat people. Can you imagine walking through the terminal at O'Hare (hub of fat people) and yelling, "Hey Tubbo!! Drop and give me 50 push-ups! YOU CAN'T DO 50? How about 20, and then give me a tax refund you larder!!" It's the ultimate example of taxation with representation.
ReplyDeleteI am shocked at Dan's overt put down of "weight challenged" or "girth enhanced" people. Dan sounds like the type person who would complain if a person whom God has seen fit to endow with an abundance of body sat next to him on an airplane and their buttocks happened to spread over into 1/3 of his seat rather than using this as an opportunity to get to know them up close and personal. :)
ReplyDeleteI welcome the opportunity to have 1/3 of "Tubbo's" girth enhanced body spill into my seat -- at which point I invoke my constitutional right to lower my half of the arm-rest between us. And then I ask for my tax refund.
ReplyDeleteHey Dan, that's a great idea. Then a fat guy like me, who can still do 50 push ups, could then ask you to use your mental health benefits to help with your anger issues. Works both ways pal.
ReplyDeleteI'm not fat. I'm big boned!
ReplyDeleteYou're not big boned, you're my brother.
ReplyDeleteDan
ReplyDeleteWhat if you run into a fat guy with anger issues?
If Obama is elected, my posts to this blog will be fewer and farther between. I will be busy cashing my checks from the Obama administration to buy gas, make car payments, buy flashy clothes and enjoy the fruits of not working for a living.
