We have witnessed an unprecedented closing of the ranks by the mainstream press around their man Senator Obama in this election. I've posted stories about a few of the more honorable folks who have begun to question the objectivity of the profession these days.
But if Senator Obama wins, the honeymoon will soon be over. No matter how much the press loves their man at election time, when the time comes to govern, they will return to their M.O. of looking for dirt wherever they can find it. And they will find it. Or even if they don't, they'll write about looking for it. And as time goes on, the match made in heaven will be begin to fray around the edges. Once favored reporters will slowly be pushed away as the Obama Team learns that it is much easier to govern if your internal deliberations don't show up in the front pages of daily newspapers. A whole new group of people out of power for eight years will return to power, and realize how much fun it is to leak to reporters...about their own administration.
Yes, it is bound to happen. Like LBJ said, if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.
It'll be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the reaction of the press when their criticisms of Obama are met with accusations of racism by the African-American community.
Just picture the folks at MSNBC having to undergo diversity training.
"...when the time comes to govern, they will return to their M.O. of looking for dirt wherever they can find it. And they will find it."
ReplyDeleteFind it? There's a veritable mountain of it buried under the carpet beneath their feet.
This is already beginning to happen - I've seen sporadic clips of "hard hitting" journalism questioning the veracity and appropriateness of Obama's fundraising machine. More CYA pieces to follow, so two or three years from now, the MSM can point to YouTube and say, "See, we were on record three years ago!"
The politicians and the MSM continuously get away with it because "WE THE PEOPLE" are too damned lazy or too damned stupid to hold their feet to the fire and demand the truth.
ReplyDeleteIt is said that we get the kind of government we deserve. That can only hold true because the MSM do not make the power of honest information available to us before an election.
As long as we have a MSM who push an agenda, rather than just reporting the facts it will remain that way.
This may prevent the press from being able to turn on him.
ReplyDeleteObama Vows To Create 'Civilian National Security Force'...
Sounds suspiciously like the Nazi Gestapo, the Russian KGB, and the East German Stasi

I think Obama will have a four year honeymoon. Race trumps objectivity as we have seen this past year.
ReplyDeleteMy only hope is if indeed Obama wins, that he has long coat-tails. I want them to be in total control. Because when things go to hell in a hand basket, and there is absolutely no doubt they will, the liberals will have no one to blame. They will be as naked as Paris Hilton on a blind date.
Buck up, we had to have Carter to get Reagan. This election is good for the Republican party. They'll have learned that if you govern like a Democrat and you have to run against a Democrat, the real Democrat will win every time.
Have fun in the wilderness and we'll see you in '12. Read a little John Locke while you've got the time.
Off topic but a good article found here:

Hopefully our politicians read Porter. Between campaigns that is.
Oops. It cut off the tag. Business week, Porter's article entitled "Why America Needs an Economic Strategy." Good stuff. Nearly impossible to implement under the current structure.
ReplyDeleteZoinks. Looking at the landscape Porter paints, I kept wondering to myself, "where to even begin?"
ReplyDeleteWhat Porter fails to mention is what strategy allowed us to contribute 1/3 of the world's economic growth over preivous years?
ReplyDeleteI would argue America has never had a defined economic strategy and maybe does not need one. I think America's economic strategy has historically been defined by national (pre- WWII era) and then international competitive market forces (post-WWII era). We were guided by Adam Simth's "invisible hand".
