Senator Jeff Sessions was victimized by Ted Kennedy and stabbed in the back by Arlen Specter in 1986 when nominated for a federal judgeship by Ronald Reagan. Now he's the ranking Republican on the committee that will grill President Obama's nominee(s) to the Supreme Court.
Sessions is a quiet, thoughtful man, but intense nonetheless. When I hear him talk, I am reminded of the stock character in Hollywood movies....the lawyer with the southern accent who is underestimated by everyone....but who is the smartest guy in the room.
"The smartest guy in the room" You got that right. Not only is he smart but he is also a man of principles, a rare thing in today's world and even more rare in politics.
