It seems the First Family has chosen to take a week on Martha's Vineyard starting August 23rd. Good for them. I can only imagine the difficulty in trying to maintain some kind of family normality in the White House, and getting away for a bit should be encouraged. I've only been to Martha's Vineyard once for a long October weekend, and I must say it is quite nice.
We should all keep in mind though that "getting away" means something very different when you are the President. Many of us go on vacation and hang on our crosses for a week because we bring a blackberry along. He gets to bring the White House Press Corps, the Staff, and the nuclear launch codes. Put another way, he won't be throwing Joe Biden the keys and saying "I'll see you in a week." You're always the President when you're the President
The week the Obamas have chosen is also the week that I'll be taking my annual (or nearly annual) cure on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I am positively champing at the bit to get down there--nine days and counting.
You're much too kind to these idiots. Rome is burning and Nero fiddles. Hey, they want a vacation, first of all earn it. Millions have lost their jobs and their homes. Wealth has been destroyed at an astounding rate. Our debt is insane and all Obama can think about is spending more. A combination of Democratic meddling in the credit markets and a blind eye towards predatory speculators like Goldman Sachs may have gotten us into this mess, but Obama's ineptitude is making it worse...and ongoing. Send the family off to Camp David and get to work fixing the economy (fat chance). That's what we're paying you for.
ReplyDeleteI don't really begrudge him the vacation, but if I were Prez, I'd be at Camp David, if only for the privacy. Have the kids bring some friends, bring a pile of books, look forward to spending some time on The Conservative Wahoo, and really take a vacation. How relaxing is it to have the press corps (breathlessly, I should add) reporting what flavor of ice cream cone you ordered? Only Camp David offers you some real vacation time.
ReplyDeleteLighten up Francis. I guess he should't sleep either? I hope you critiqued W for his trips to Crawford also.
ReplyDeleteSay what you will about W but by any measure the economy was kicking ass and taking names when he was in office. Obama can go to Martha's Vineyard if he likes. Maybe he'll get an epiphany and decide to stay please God.
ReplyDeleteBy any measure? Let's forget your partisan blinders for a second.
ReplyDeletePresident's don't control the economy. That they appoint folks that influence how the economy performs overtime through regulation, lack thereof, etc. could be seem as some control. But let's not assign too much blame or credit to the office or the man. The Fed has more control than the President.
It was "kicking ass and taking names" based on a sham, not any economic stewardship by W. I will point out that Geithner's predecessor was head of Goldman Sachs (your predatory speculator) from 1974 - 2006. He led the charge for the reduction of the net capital rule which helped pave the way for the massive over-leveraging. Without prattling on, I think it is safe to say that you are misinformed or so blinded by your love for the GOP and hate for the Dems that you can't see the fault or flaws in your own party.
Correction: He wasn't head from 1974 - 2006, he worked for them during that period and was head from 1998? to 2006.
ReplyDelete"Any of you guys call me Francis, and I'll kill you."
ReplyDeletedon't call him Francis, call him Frannie.
