New York Times Covers Opposition to Obama as Racism--Though It Is Clear That No Dems Think This

Yet another reference to the "because he is black" line. The logic is clear. Obama is right, whatever he says is sensible and indisputable. Therefore, opposition to him cannot possibly be based on the merits of the issues. Therefore, it must be because he is black. Eight years of vehement resistance to Bill Clinton by the right does not in any way shake the confidence of those holding this insipid narrative. And there continue to be those who won't even acknowledge the existence of the narrative--much harder to do when their chief propaganda sheet (NYT) is covering it.

  1. It is not cries of racism, real or imagined, not racists real or imagined, not an Obama presidency that is a success or a failure that will destroy America it is the pandemic hypocrisy of our leaders and the media that will bring about our ultimate downfall.

  2. Maybe it's time to take back the R word the same way rappers took back the N word.

They're going to call us racist anyway.

  3. Everyone knew it would come to this, although I'm a little surprised it happened so fast. If you oppose Obama's policies you are racist, so shut up.

The Dems always pull this crap. Oh no you can't criticize her, her son died in Iraq. You can't criticize them, their husbands died in the WTC. If you criticize the gay guy who wants to socialize medicine you're a homophobe. If you criticize Janeane Garofalo you're anti- weird genetic malfunction looking chick. And on and on.

Again, I don't see an argument that claims disagreement w/Obama in itself = racism. I see some people claiming that racism exists in the minds of some people. Though in reading that article, looks like most of the left-leaning writers quoted are claiming other reasons than racism, and most Right-leaning folks seem to be pointing to a host of other -isms (Marxism, Socialism, Fascism) or 'needing to get some humility.'

Look, you and I both know that most opposition to Obama's choices doesn't have a thing to do with either his choices or with racism. It's just Republican obstructionism.

But although you may be lucky enough to live in a place where there's no racism, I see it in Boston daily, I saw it daily when I lived in NYC. You can dismiss racism as a factor in why some people won't hear Obama, but that doesn't make it go away. It's out there.

  5. Emphasis on the negative aspects of one's behavior and policies will demonstrate judgment of one's character not the color of one's skin.

  6. But just because someone is a racist, it doesn't mean Barry Hussein is telling the truth.

  7. CAMPBELL BROWN: (music) ...vicious, racist imagery attacking our first African-American president.

LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: (newsroom noise) Gentleman Joe Wilson has done much to make the racist history of South Carolina jump back into our present consciousness.

CANDY CROWLEY: (b-roll) Critics think this is about resistance to a black man as president.

JAMES CARVILLE: People are upset with President Obama because of the color of his skin. Who cannot believe that?

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Could there be a refusal to accept the legitimacy of Barack Obama as president because of his race?

WOLF BLITZER: A small but disturbing minority within the tea party movement is also blatantly anti-black.

JOHN RIDLEY: When you talk about racial image, this is not just standard debate.

ELAINE QUIJANO: (b-roll) A small but passionate minority is also voicing what some see as racist rhetoric.

JOHN AVLON: Hitler. Communism. Racism. All this ugliness is bubbling up.

ANDERSON COOPER: There is an undercurrent of racism in some of the criticism of the president.

JUAN WILLIAMS: An attack on somebody because you really don't like the fact that they are president or because of their race.

ROSS DOUTHAT: Clearly Barack Obama's race plays some role in the kind of anxieties that are roiling the political right.

CLARENCE PAGE: (outdoor noise) People are not just mad at Obama. They are mad at Jesse Jackson. They are mad at Reverend Wright. They are mad at Al Sharpton. They are mad at people who have nothing to do with Obama except they all happen to be black.
