Big Fat Friday Free For All

All Time High (April 1 2009): 192.2
Diet start (June 1): 189
Last Friday: 168.6 (10/30/09)
Today: 171.0
Goal: Sub 150

Moving in the wrong direction, obviously. Couple of reasons: 1) while I've been eating the things I should be eating, I've been eating more of them. 2) when eating out, I've begun to work the "appetizer" back into the rotation 3) Didn't weigh in the past two Fridays---been hiding.

No excuse. Gotta get back to work on this.

But enough of that--what's on your mind? Anything you need to get off your chest? Anything our President has done or hasn't done that is worthy of comment?

This is your day! Fire when ready, Gridley.

  1. Health insurance companies in the US earn about 6 billion dollars a year in profit. Medicare and Medicaid fraud in the US is over 90 billion a year. That's right, $90,000,000,000 going into the hands of not necessarily sophisticated criminals. The system is so porous one might mistake it for a income redistribution program for gangs. And our politicians want to turn over our healthcare to a bureaucracy that loses (misplaces?) money at a rate of $250 million dollars a day?

Looks like reality has set in for the students in the University of Califormia system.

Given the inelasticity of demand for a college education, it would appear as though the system can charge all it wants and the idiots will still pay 24 large a year for a sociology degree.

  4. I had to mention this. This is in Coulter's latest column:

"Article I, Section 8, and Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution give Congress the power to establish the jurisdiction of the lower federal courts and to create exceptions to that jurisdiction. Congress could pass a statute limiting federal court jurisdiction to individuals not subject to trial before a military tribunal. Any legislator who votes "nay" on such a bill will be voting to give foreign terrorists the same legal rights as U.S. citizens -- and more legal rights than members of the U.S. military are entitled to."

    WOW!

I know this is nothing new as pork, earmarks and “scratch my back legislation” have been around for quite awhile. But, this is the kind of crap that needs to stop.

Could be worse. I notice that they fail to mention that his wife is Hispanic when they tell of his opposition to illeagal immigration.

  8. Here's a question I've had for a while now. How accurate is factcheck.org if at all?

  9. I saw that too Doc. I don't know what was more astonishing-the obscene buying of her vote or the fact that ABC reported on it.

  10. Sally - in a sense, ABC reporting on it may just be the bigger story. There's always been buying of votes, but the MSM (of late) "following the money", now that's news!

  11. Greg THD wrote "Medicare and Medicaid fraud in the US is over 90 billion a year." please cite your source..... your wild ass assertions ruin your credibility...

  12. Anonymouse--I just spent five minutes googling "medicare and medicaid fraud" and found estimates from $47B to $226B a year in countless sources.

Not that he is an authoritative source, but Senator Tom Coburn used an "$80B" figure.

I also found some sources that attempt to analyze those numbers more closely.

I'm not as sure as you that GHD made a "wild-ass assertion", irrespective of his lack of sourcing.
