A superb essay in this morning's WaPost by someone who lived under Communism's yoke in Hungary. The "noble intentions" behind Communism's repression, mass murder, and authoritarianism have always provided Western intellectuals with a shield to cower behind as they lobbed criticism at capitalism. Professor Hollander destroys the notion of nobility behind Communism--and provides for today's readers a subtle warning. From the essay:
"The failure of Soviet communism confirms that humans motivated by lofty ideals are capable of inflicting great suffering with a clear conscience."
