Here it is once again, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you wait for each day with baited breath (what does that mean, by the way?).
Your turn to spout off---what's on your mind? Wondering if Chris Christie can be president in the age of television? Thinking the President's shakedown of BP certainly qualifies as one of those "abuses of power" we heard so much about when a Republican was in the White House?
Speak now!
Why is it that millions of Americans who, most of the time, neither care nor know squat about Euro-kickball suddenly become rabid futbal fans for two weeks every four years? How many more times will I be subjected to inane crap like, "Ghana's for real. They have a legit chance to win it all." ...or, "Argentina's the real shit!" ....uhm, OK Poindexter, let them keep winning soccer games and the Brits'll just keep the Falklands, thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteDoes one have to be a metrosexual internationalist pantywaste to enjoy Werlt Kup..or what? If so, count me out. I'll remain the poster boy for the ugly American. Hating soccer just gives the French another reason to point with derision and call us uncultured savages, which is just fine with me.
The symmetry of NASCAR just makes so much more sense....Drive fast...turn left....Drive fast...turn left
I do not turn left.
ReplyDeleteYou do not or you cannot?
ReplyDeleteI believe it is 'bated breath.' 'Baited' breath just sounds gross.
ReplyDeleteAnd get off Christie's bandwagon and get on Daniels'!
Could not abide a President named, "Mitch".
ReplyDeleteAfter a few more years of damage wreaked by a President named Barack, you'll take a Mitch. And you'll like it.
ReplyDeleteTwo words which leave me cold, "Cumulative Voting", as in Cumulative voting in Port Chester, NY. So much for one person, one vote.
ReplyDeleteThis fraud was perpetrated upon the citizenry of Port Chester, NY in their recent elections. Hispanics (who number approx. 50% of the population of that city) were given 6 votes a piece to vote however they wished. And a Hispanic man took 4th place in the voting which put him on the city council. Fourth place? Each Hispanic voter had 6 votes and fourth place? This tells me that:
a) Most of the Hispanics in Port Chester are illegal aliens,
and/or
b) The Hispanic population there just doesn't vote (mirroring the greater population of the US as a whole).
The road to hell is paved with a mixture of BS and good intentions. The Justice Department is leading us down that road.
Obviously some people don't get it. The World Cup is war by other means. It is nationalism run amok (without the artillery). Even if you don't enjoy the game most can appreciate the spectacle.
ReplyDeleteLook, all real Americans are competitors. We compete in the most obscure Olympic sports for the sake of the competition, because we're Americans and we're going to plant the flag.
If you think it's just sport, you're missing the point. In the 1966 World Cup final England's Geoff Hurst scored a goal against the Germans that wasn't. It was a screamer that hit the crossbar and went straight down, it never went in. The Russian official who called it good was asked about the goal. His answer was "Stalingrad". True story.

Journalism can reinvent itself without government 'help'
The tools at the WaPo came out 3 days after the Washington Times with an editorial poo-poing the idea that the FTC was looking to ways to make us all pay for the "old media". Umm hmm, yea.
