The Navy's newest Littoral Combat Ship will be the USS Gabrielle Giffords.
We're all supporting her, and cheering for her recovery, but this is getting a little silly.
Wouldn't the Meyer (as in Dakota) or Giunta (as in Sal) be a bit more appropriate?
This is more than a little silly, after already having named ships for John Murtha and Caesar Chavez.
ReplyDeleteMeyer and Giunta would be nearly as silly -- naming ships after the living is just plain wrong.
ReplyDeleteYes Sally, in this environment, CW does have a chance--about 1500 EXCEL spreadsheet pages after:
ReplyDelete- USS MICHAEL MOORE
- USS BILL AYRES
- USS JEREMIAH WRIGHT
- USS BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA
- etc
The process of naming ships is completely hooey. It has been for quite a while. Ships should be named after famous battles, patriotic slogans, states, presidents and Medal of Honor recipients.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure when we started naming ships after living people, but it is strange.
Don't we have any new great battles we can name ships after? Najaf, Fallujah, Marjah, or sticking to a more Navy tone, maybe Pirate Crusher or Abbottabad.
Going forward, welfare offices should be named for Democrats and military bases and warships named for Republicans.
