President Obama's
fiat granting amnesty to 800,000 illegal immigrants looks like a risky proposition to many political pundits, but I find myself thinking that there really isn't much of a downside to it. If Obama were more competitive with working class whites, he would be somewhat wary of alienating them. But he isn't competitive there, and this move is a simple acknowledgement of the fact that he is writing off one constituency for another. I suppose there is some risk associated with amping up the alienation and bringing out illegal immigration opponents in larger numbers--but this really comes down to the blatant pandering of a campaign in serious trouble.
Barry blows an economic speech in Ohio Thursday that even gets criticized by liberals, so on Friday he announces his amnesty program for illegals. I guess we'll be seeing a slavery reparations program instituted after his next bad speech.
ReplyDeleteDesperate pandering? I really don't think so. I mean, I might agree with you if he had prefaced this stunt with, oh, I don't know, something like an out of the blue evolution to supporting gay marriage. But of course, that would be so obviously a case of desperate pandering that even the MSM would pillory him for it. And they'd pillory him again if he had done this amnesty fiat in immediate succession. No, nothing going on here except profoundly principled executive action. Next up: announcing Hillary for Give 'em Hell Joe's backfill. Yep, The One is deliciously close to having his moniker suffixed with "-Termer" and it appears that even he and his sycophants know it.
ReplyDeleteCome on, we all knew this was coming. Obama has been going down the constituency list with goodies this whole campaign and now it's the hispanics turn. I actually thought it would much broader. The question is, how should Romney react?
ReplyDeleteI think he should turn the issue around on Obama. He should say; 'listen, I'm not necessarily opposed to this but this is not the way to go about it. This is not a power the Presidency possesses. He can't just declare this to be law. We have laws in place. He is not a dictator like Hugo Chavez or Vladimir Putin, although it appears he wants to be. If he wants the law changed we have a Congress where these issues can and should be debated openly. Now I know he hates to deal with little congressmen from Palookaville, but the idea they he can just issue edicts from on high and wipe away codified, settled law, is not Constitutional and it's goes against the American way of life.'
There you have it. Define Obama as the imperial President. A tactic like this plays in to so much this Administration stands for and it will get traction because it rings true, and for the best of reasons...it is true.
....and play up overreach on healthcare, specially if the Supremes overturn it....
