Yes, Please!
Joe Biden, talking to a voter in Sarasota today:
"I’m not trying to talk you into voting for me, I just wanted to say hi to you. And after its all over when your insurance rates go down, then you’ll vote for me in 2016. I’ll talk to you later.”
The race for the 2016 Democratic nomination begins next Wednesday. Sure hope Joey McMensa is in the mix.

Here Come the Climate Change Windbags
The Lead Windbag |
A Sandy-esque storm will probably be an annual event now thanks to climate change and dirty energy, says Al Gore.
And Mike Bloomberg says that due to the storms of recent years, we have to address these issues. (Haven't we always had storms?)
Off topic: Al Gore's getting a little hefty.
Cue the Violins for San Francisco Liberals
Poor Kay Edelman. The election has her so stressed out that it's really starting to affect every part of her life. Since the first debate, she's been suffering from fear of defeat, to the point where she gets up in the middle of the night to check the latest polls. Some days she's so distraught that she can't exercise.
And this affliction is spreading across the Bay Area. A telethon is clearly in order.
Poor Kay. Hope she'll be okay! |
This Man Writes with a Scalpel
This is a must read by Mark Steyn (I omitted the usual prefix, "The Incomparable" feeling it to be redundant) about Benghazi, or Benghazigate, as it is being called. Don't look for anything about Benghazi in any of the MSM outlets, unless it is some remnant critique of Romney's 'hair trigger politicization of an unfortunate, isolated incident in response to Islamaphobic videos on YouTube.'
One of my favorite eviscerations:
"At the photo-op staged for the returning caskets, Obama et al seem to have been too focused on their campaign needs to observe even the minimal courtesies. Charles Woods [father of slain former SEAL, Ty Woods] says that, at the ceremony, Joe Biden strolled over to him and by way of condolence said in a "loud and boisterous" voice, "Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?" One assumes charitably that the vice president is acknowledging in his own inept and blundering way the remarkable courage of a man called upon to die for his country on some worthless sod halfway across the planet. But the near-parodic locker-room coarseness is grotesque both in its inaptness and in its lack of basic human feeling for a bereaved family forced to grieve in public and as crowd-scene extras to the political big shot. Just about the only formal responsibility a vice president has is to attend funerals without embarrassing his country. And this preening buffoon of pseudo-blue-collar faux-machismo couldn't even manage that."
There is enough in this incident to make Hillary, Joe and Barak the Lance Armstrongs of American politics forever. They should be banned forever from practicing politics (one can argue they keep practicing because they have yet to get any of it right).
In any case, were our media outlets not constrained by their Obama Campaign Information Bureau charters (case in point: MSNBC's logo "Leaning FORWARD."), they might be able to partake in a feeding frenzy over the decaying carcass of this Administration's inexplicable and unforgivable mishandling of the Benghazi massacre.
Fellow Americans, on November 6th, just voting for Mitt Romney to win is not enough. We need to vote resoundingly to repudiate the poison, the cancer, of Progressivism for another generation. Put it back in the dark recesses of society where it belongs for another thirty years just was we did with Carter. We need to put Harry Reid on the list of the unemployed along with every single polictical appointee of this Administration. If we can do that, I will hopefully be dead the next time it rears it's malfunctioning head. Progressive. Forward. Hardly--as Calvin Coolidge stated so eloquently regarding Progressives:
“About the Declaration there is a finality that is exceedingly restful. It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning cannot be applied to this great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.”
Amen and Amen.

CW for Romney Crushes $26K--Up Next--$27K!!!
The bad weather has brought out some new donations, and I couldn't be more grateful! Alabama's most famous helicopter pilot chipped in, as did a stalwart conservative defense contractor from Northern Virginia and my favorite woman in the entire state of Wyoming!
Can you feel it, folks? Can you begin to feel that SOMETHING IS HAPPENING? The polls suggest it, but trust what you know. No one who voted for McCain is voting for Obama--but TONS of people--people you know--who voted for Obama are now voting for Romney. Where are the yard signs for Obama? Where are the bumper stickers?
President Obama's message of Hope and Change has been replaced by one of bitterness and recrimination--while Mitt Romney assures us that help is on the way in the form of a guy who knows what he is doing.
I assure you--money you contribute in the last week of the campaign WILL NOT GO TO WASTE. The campaign is widening its focus to places like Pennsylvania and Minnesota, while the relentless concentration on the swing states continues. This takes money--and it takes YOUR SUPPORT.
Please click this link to donate...to the CW for Romney Fund. It is essential that you check the box that says you know your referrer, and that when you do so, it brings up two boxes, one with "INT 2012" in it, and the other with the number "4847" in it. Early Voting in MD
Lots of talk on the interwebs yesterday of huge turnout for early voting in MD and DC. I got to the polls twenty minutes after they opened and waited in line for an hour to vote.
Process was a little slow, and we have a number of ballot initiatives in MD, but there was no doubt about the popularity of the practice.
Folks were energized, too.

College Football Review: Week 9, Hammer My Head Against the Wall Edition
Bad news first. As you may know I'm a proud gradgeate of NCSU. I attended on a Biscuitville scholarship after winning the "name that biscuit" contest (yes that's right, "Pig in a Pillow" was my idea). So as you might imagine I'm gutted by yesterday's 43-35 Wolfpack lose to Carolina in Chapel Hill. Our quarterback Mike Glennon had a fantastic day throwing for 467 yards besting his previous high in the third quarter. But State had a case of the dropsies, inexplicably dropping pass after pass one in the fourth quarter that would have resulted in a walk-in TD. But the game changer was Giovani Bernard (damn Italians!). He ran and caught for 240 yards including a 74 yard punt return with 13 seconds on the clock to seal the win. If this guy went to Michigan they'd be #3 right now and he'd be a Heisman candidate; and that's no joke. Oh well, we'll get 'em next year.
The national picture is a lot clearer this week and the cream has risen to the top. And guess what? The Irish are back. Notre Dame went down to Norman and took care of bidness. Now I know OU ain't the Sooners of old (Bob Stoops being a half-wit and all) and I know this isn't your daddy's Oklahoma (not many Thomas Lott, David Overstreet or Billy Sims caliber players) but they are a quality team and this is Norman, Oklahoma on a Saturday. But the Irish met the challenge and I have to say, their defense is outstanding! This team is a contender.
Kansas State keeps winning handily this time against a good Texas Tech team. K State scares hell out of the BCS. They're too good to ignore but not sexy. The powers that be do not want this team playing for the big one because they just won't pull the numbers. Naturally they want Alabama and Notre Dame, and they may get it. 'Bama wore out a previously undefeated Miss State yesterday.
The most disappointing game of the day was Georgia and Florida. By all accounts it looked like spring scrimmage. The Georgia quarterback had one more completion than interceptions in the first quarter...and his team won! This is one of the biggest rivalries in American sports and it was a fumbling, bumbling joke. Was everybody high? Anyway Florida punched their ticket and drops by the wayside.
So, we've got Alabama, Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame still in the hunt. By the way, after State's miserably performance in Chapel Hill maybe CW will reconsider and make a small wager on State vs. Virginia this coming Saturday. Come on man, don't be a coward, it's only money.
See ya next week. Oh, stay tuned for my all ACC selections coming soon. If you have any suggestions I'll be glad to entertain them (or ridicule as the case may be).

CW for Romney Closing in on $26K....
Thanks to donations from that shy girl in my high school, and from the oldest of the McGrath boys. Starting to feel it, folks. Big things coming our way.
But don't let up yet. Several events in Virginia have to be cancelled this week and made up elsewhere. That costs money.
If you have a few ducats laying around, think about a bottom of the ninth contribution!

That Obama is one Classy Fella
The campaign of the Daily Show candidate, the one who brought you Romnesia, 'your first time,' binders, Big Bird and sundry other idiocies, is now featuring on its official campaign site the following:
Man, the howls we'd hear if the situation was reversed...

Mitt Romney Will Win the Election
I have been a Romney supporter since I sent my first contribution in April of 2011. I picked him way back then because I looked at who was making noise about running for the GOP nomination, and I decided only one of them could beat Barack Obama--and that was Mitt Romney.
We are now 18 months down the road, and until this moment, I have believed that Barack Obama was likely to be re-elected. That possibility did not dampen my spirits nor did it keep me from working hard to elect Romney--it was simply my sense of the power of incumbency and the large voting bloc the President could rely upon among committed Democrats and minorities.
But today is different. This is the day that I come forward to say, Mitt will win. And it will be much less close than many feel the election will be. I predict no less than 321 electoral college votes for Romney. He will win all states except:
HI, WA, OR, CA, NV, NM, IL, DC, MD, DE, NJ, PA, NY, CT, MA, RI and VT.
You heard it here first.
Update:
I'd like to revise and extend these remarks and ad a graphic. Hammer (in the comments) made me realize that I hadn't done a good job checking my math and looking hard at the map. So I did this interactive map and came up with a squeeker of a victory for Romney:

Desperate Housewives of Wake County
This is a photograph of one Debra Goldman. Ms. Goldman is the Republican nominee for North Carolina State Auditor (most cabinet positions here are elected not appointed). Ms. Goldman is not an accountant. She has no financial or business experience. In fact she has no particular expertise of any kind that would recommend her for the job apart from being (by all accounts) very friendly and available.
Ms. Goldman started her political career as a "housewife" on the Wake County School Board. She was elected in response to obstinate liberal Democrats who insisted kids be bused from one side of the county to the others so as to maintain "diversity". But after a lot of hard work battling the mayor, city government, the liberal Democratic establishment, the local media and various and sundry leftist interest groups (mostly funded from out of state) the Republicans were able to win the slimmest of majorities on the school board in 2009. And true to their word after a year of studies and hearings, they came up with a plan that would encourage neighborhood schools and provide a good well-rounded education for all students; and one that wouldn't require 7 year olds to be at the bus stop at 5:30 AM.
When the vote came up it was a foregone conclusion the new student assignment plan would pass 5-4 along party lines. But not so fast my friend, Ms. Goldman inexplicably changed her vote. Everybody, and I mean everybody was flabbergasted. What happened? Of course she came up with some lame excuse about needing more input from the effected communities blah blah blah, and as you might imagine the previously demoralized liberals were absolutely ecstatic. But to the intelligent discerning observer this stunk to high heaven.
Fast forward two years and Murphy's Law rears its ugly head. My personal life experience is that if you get up to no good eventually it will all come out, and at the worst possible time. And so it goes with Ms. Goldman. In the midst of all this busy school reorganization business it seems she was having a torrid love affair with fellow board member, and current candidate for NC House, Chris Malone (Mr. Malone described their relationship as "very heated", I'm getting a chubby just thinking about it!). And a few days prior to this huge aforementioned vote that would effect a billion dollar budget and 150,000 Wake County school children, Ms. Goldman named Mr. Malone as the prime suspect in a burglary at her residence with $20,000 in rare coins and $130,000 in jewelry reportedly missing. Mr. Malone was questioned by police and the crime remains unsolved. So, where are we now? Even though these two idiot's affair was "common knowledge" to other board members (of both parties, which means the local media had to have know all about it) the story doesn't break until two weeks ago or one month before the general election. That gives everybody just enough time to speculate as to why Ms. Goldman changed her vote at the last minute and to review her (and Mr. Malone's) qualifications for state wide office.
This whole story is as convoluted and sordid as a John Edwards' autobiography. What was the NC Republican Party thinking allowing these two clowns to run for higher office? They're not going to hurt Mitt Romney or Pat McCrory, but they could hurt down ticket races (at least two certainly). And it's the job of the party to vet these people. You don't want married people who have a platinum frequent flyer card at the Motel 6 running for anything. This woman is obviously crazy and bitter and scorned and vindictive, you know, like most of the women we've dumped in our lives. And the guy's judgement stinks. He's a married man and he's running around getting his ass named as a grand larceny "person of interest" and getting it splashed all over the news? And both of these fools are on the ballot of what could potentially be a landslide election for the Republicans? Good Lord, are there any adults in the room?
In the past year the NC Democratic Party tried to fire their chairman because he covered up and then protected the job of a party functionary who was sued for sexual harassment (male on male). Said individual brought home AIDS to his girlfriend. But what are people talking about now? Bingo...the Republicans.

CW FOR ROMNEY HITS $25,000!!!!!
Thanks to three great donors, we hit our goal today! The gentleman from Tickbite was heard from again, so was a great man from the NY financial community, and one of my favorite Naval Aviators---who asked to be told when we were close enough so that he could be the guy to put us over. Add them up and we are officially sitting on $25,000
But folks--I'm afraid I can't sit still. Let's go for $30,000! The campaign has a ton of need for resources in these next two weeks--we need to get our the vote, and we need to spend money in some states that we might earlier have passed by--states like Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Arizona.
I can't tell you how grateful I am to all the donors.

Two More Donations---$24K is in Sight!
Received two kind donations overnight, one from our stalwart Hampton Roads retired Marine, and one from a brother destroyer captain who was very patient with me as I followed in his wake. Thanks to both of them, and to all who have donated.
But look, folks. We're less than $1500 from the $25K goal. Think about it. The readers of this little blog, of late unfortunately ignored by its founder, have reached deeply and supported our candidate to the tune of nearly $25K. We're under two weeks from the end, and there are a lot of commercials and mailings left to go.
Won't you consider one more trip to the cookie jar?
Please click this link to donate...to the CW for Romney Fund. It is essential that you check the box that says you know your referrer, and that when you do so, it brings up two boxes, one with "INT 2012" in it, and the other with the number "4847" in it. If they aren't there, please type them in. That's how the blog gets credit.

The Final Debate
Like the second debate, I think the President won this one...but by a slimmer margin than the last. Romney did what he had to do--he showed that he looked Presidential and that he could be the Commander in Chief.
Obama is likely to "win" in the snap polls--but his numbers will not budge in the real polls.
I'm not ready to call this for Romney....yet. But it won't be long.
UPDATE: I must 'splain something,. When I pick a debate winner, I pick the winner based ONLY on the performance of the players in that contest. I separate the debate from the larger context of the campaign.
And so, I thought Obama did a smidge better tonight, and so "won" the debate. Does that mean that Romney won't come out of it better off than he went in? No. It doesn't mean that. I think Indies will be happy with his "i'm not a war-monger" stance and his being very Presidential. But on the subject of the eveningm, BO took it,

Mamma Jamma Hamma College Football Review: Week 8
Week 8 was more about who lost than who won. Some pretenders where finally (and inevitably) shown the exit from the national picture most notably West Virginia. The Mountaineers went from being ranked #5 to "who cares" in two short weeks with their blowout lose to Kansas State 55-14 at home. I guess Gino Smith can kiss the Heisman goodbye (as if he had a hope in hell). My advise would be for West Virginia to stick to what they're good at like collecting junk in their front yard and banging their step-sister and/or step-mother.
The S.C. Gamecocks reverted to their traditional appellation Lamecocks due to an embarrassing lose in the Swamp to the Gators. The "Ole Ball Coach" Steve Spurrier reverted as well; he's back to being know simply as "asshole".
In other games Ohio State got lucky against Purdue and pulled one out, the Papist beat the Cultists in South Bend, Va. Tech continues their slide this time against the Clemson Tigers and LSU, 'Bama and Oregon just keep rollin' along.
The big game in my neck of the woods was of course Duke's surprising upset of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Even though Butch Davis was a dirty cheating bastard he did leave Coach Larry Fedora with some good talent at Carolina (they can't read or write but they're good football players). And it was a great game to watch. The Heels got lucky late in the game after recovering their own fumble for an easy touchdown and Duke drove the field with three minutes to go to get the win. Wallace Wade hasn't seen this much excitement since Christian Laettner used to show his girlfriend the big "D" on the 50 yard line (after hours of course).
In other second rate college football action the Wolfpack got lucky as hell at Byrd Stadium in College Park after Mary-Lands's freshman kicker hit the upright on a 33 yard field goal attempt. And the Virginia X are quite possibly the worst football team in the country losing again this time to Wake Forest at home. I'm thinking the X couldn't beat Hampden-Sydney or Randolph-Macon. They really stink and I say that with all honesty with no malice intended. I don't think poor CW will be betting any $75.00 steak dinners on this bunch of losers.
Oh well, that a wrap. See you next week.

CW for Romney Breaks $23K!
Thanks to donations from two of my all time favorite football players, one from Lenape High School and the other from UVA, our effort has smashed through the $23K level on our way to a goal of $25K.
Spent the day in Charlottesville yesterday, watching the hapless Hoos do their thing--but the key takeaway was the enthusiasm and energy evident in the tailgate. People are beginning to think we can get this done, and wayward Obama voters are moving back to the fold.
Ask yourself this question: Do I know anyone who voted for John McCain in 2008 who will vote for Barack Obama in 2012? The answer is pretty clear.
Our fund's goal is in sight. A little over two weeks remains until this is settled and they campaign is going to need some help to press Obama in the swing states.

Anyone? Anyone?
Another Donation Received! $23K is In Sight!
The Queen of All Grant Administrators, the Goddess of Medical Databases, and the best looking Hoo in the Class of 1992 (all the same person) heaved over with YET ANOTHER donation to the cause! I don't mean to be pushy here, but friends, this hard workin' (note the Obama g-drop) woman's been chippin' in from the START!
We are one "max donor" ($2500) plus a $50 donation away from the $25,000 goal. Not that I'm expenctin' anyone to pony up $2500--any number of donations would be just fine!
One more debate, friends. Three hours left for BO to save his Presidency. I know for a fact that Mitt is working his ass off this weekend, and I suspect that our President is likely to take him lightly on the foreign policy questions that make up this last debate.
If you've donated already, consider a final, just before the election top-off. If you haven't donated, it's time to get off the bench and on the field!
Friends, at NO POINT in this election have I considered Mitt Romney "in the lead" or "favored to win". The advantages of incumbency are just too strong. But you know what? I'm getting there. All the signs are moving in our direction, and as Mark Levin says every night on his radio program, there is something going on out there in America.

Big Fat Friday Free For All
What's the matter, Bub? Your post convention bounce turned upside down? Your "slim-fit" shirt buttons becoming a missile hazard?
When it comes to bad karma, better out than in! Share with us.
Heading down to Chesterfield VA this afternoon to spend the evening with big brother Tom and his family, then over to the center of the known universe on Saturday to watch my feckless Wahoos on the gridiron.

Three Donations Have CW for Romney Pushing $23K!
Yesterday was a great day for the fund, as we had three donations. One was from a Deputy Sheriff in California, a repeat donor. One was from a salt-of -the-earth Naval Officer with whom I used to work, and the third was from a Wahoo/former Naval Officer holding down the fort in Norfolk. Thanks to all of you for your support.
You watched the debate last night. You've read the stories. Mitt has taken this race and turned it to his advantage, but the President has formidable weapons at his disposal.
Three weeks left. Three short weeks. Is the future of your country worth a few shekels? Is sending the Obama's back to Hyde Park worth a few ducats?

Debate #2: After a Good Night's Sleep
1. I've slept on it, and I have come to conclude that my initial reaction--that the President won a tough bout on points, remains. He took it because a) he didn't get slaughtered, like last time b) he was engaged, feisty, and well-prepared and c) Mitt missed the opportunity to T-off on him on Libya.
2. During the debate, the Twitterverse was teeming with talk from conservatives about the questions from the "undecided" voters--that undecided or not, the questions asked tended to be framed by a liberal worldview. I agreed at the time, and I agree now. Jonah Goldberg questioned the entire premise of having a town-hall with "undecided" voters in a state in which one candidate has an insurmountable and unassailable lead. He referred to the town-hall crowd as "dyspeptic Democrats", which I believe is about right.
3. I despise, with every ounce of my being, the town hall format. I do not like the getting up and walking around, I do not like the "fronting" and "big man" tactics it engenders, I do not like the "I feel your pain" responses it promotes, and I don't like the fascination with "undecided" voters that it features. Undecided? Ridiculous. You're leaning one way or the other and the only thing undecided about your vote is that either the polls haven't opened or you don't have an absentee ballot. Put simply, they are undecided because either a) they simply haven't been forced to make a decision or b) they are vapid and apolitical.
4. This "equal pay for equal work" thing is a canard, and Mitt should have swatted it away. The 72 (or 77 %) statistic is discredited virtually every day. Where men and women work in the SAME jobs with THE SAME experience, there is almost no difference, and there are volumes of employment statutes on the books to protect women. If he gets another opportunity, he should swat this one into the stands.
5. The question at the end in which each candidate had the opportunity to address a common misconception about them was classic Obama. The man has governed as a man of the left FROM DAY 1, his entire (meager) resume before the Presidency was from the left, and he clearly believes the free market is a dangerous thing that needs to be tamed by powerful government. In his answer, he tried to make people believe otherwise. They are not buying it.
6. I noted that the "undecided" asker of the Equal Pay question (young woman) made a bee-line for the President after the debate to obtain his autograph. Undecided my arse!
7. Here's an idea--let's have a town hall packed with partisans. And the partisans only get to ask questions of the guy on the other side. Love to see that debate.
8. Finally, I'd also like to see a debate in which the candidates are encased in little sound proof booths. They would be able to hear questions, but their microphones would ONLY be live for that portion of time allotted to them--after which it would go dead and they could talk all they want but no one would hear. I think this would solve the bitching at the moderator problem, would promote sharper answers, and would guarantee equal time.

Debate #2: Obama Comes Out Swinging
Bottom Line Up Front: I think the President took this debate. By a hair. I would have called a tie, or even a slight win for Romney--if not for the Libya exchange. Romney missed a huge opportunity on this, and he seemed unsure of himself--especially on whether or not the President talked about the attack as a terror attack.
Romney did not back down. He went toe-to-toe. He looked Presidential. But I do not think he won.
The race will tighten. It is coming down to the wire.

That's Very Interesting, WaPo. Please, Tell Us More
The Post's reporters had to fill their time somehow...they all apparently already finished writing their 'Obama makes a comeback' stories to file at about 10:30 tonight.
OK, Who Did It?
Who did it? Who sent the United States Ambassadress to the United Nations out on the Sunday talk show circuit to spread the lie that the Libyan consulate attack was the result of a YouTube video that no one had ever heard of? Who?
Here's the deal as I understand it. Our diplomats should be, for the most part, insulated from domestic politics. I know that's not always possible but regardless ambassadors should not be used as operatives in a political campaign, especially when they lie. Now I don't know who gave Rice the wrong information. I don't know if she knew it was the wrong information although considering the State Department knew the situation almost immediately it strains credulity to think otherwise. So who sent her out to do the campaign's bidding, Hillary Clinton? Possibly and if she did she should be fired immediately. But I suspect it was the White House. It seems unlikely to me the campaign would or could do an end run around the Secretary of State, but who knows? These people make their own rules. I just hope the topic comes up in tonights debate because the media has shown no interest.

100th Donation Received! $22K Mark Broken in CW for Romney!
Two donations received today, one from the gentleman from Tickbite, NC, and one from my favorite Georgetown graduate--who also happens to be the 100th donor! He will be offered the rare and wonderful chance to post to the site on a subject of his choosing, subject of course to the high standards to which this blog strives and maintains.
We are only $3000 from the blog goal of $25,000. I read today somewhere that President Obama has "three hours left to save his Presidency." Let's make it harder for him to do so.

Another Great Ad....
And this guy paid for it HIMSELF!!!!
Is that enough to motivate you to contribute to CW for Romney? We are stuck on 98 contributors, perhaps you can be #100? How about this...to the 100th contributor, a chance to post their thoughts in a post all their own!

College Football Pigskin Review Week 7; Hammerhagic Fever Edition
We had somewhat of a shake-out this week and some interesting contests. The premier game was the South Carolina Gamecocks traveling to Death Valley to meet the LSU Tigers. LSU was of course coming off a tough road lose to the Flawda Gators and looking for a little redemption. And considering the Tigers have a home winning streak going back to the Battle of New Orleans, well... for the other Carolina, that ain't where you wanna be. But the Cocks gave 'em all they wanted till crunch time and then their defense got tired. LSU scored 13 in the 4th. quarter and it was good night Irene. Spurrier had a 3 visor thrown to the ground and an 11 time headset violently ripped off head (unassisted) night. And by the way, what's up with South Carolina's uniforms, slag heap camo? Keep this up and Mary-land's uniforms will start looking good. Speaking of Mary-land, they took the short ride to Charlottesville to play in Virginia X's Homecoming. Need I recount the gory details? Let me just say poor Mike London has some problems.
In other games K-State busted Iowa State's upset minded bubble, OU wore Texas' ass clean out (that game ain't what it used to be), the University of New Jersey beat Syracuse, Auburn lost again this time to Ole Miss (from Penthouse to outhouse) Kent State clipped Army (presumably getting a little revenge for the 4-0 score in 1970) and the #10 ranked Oregon State Beavers gave BYU a hiding 42-24 (always was a big Beaver fan, just ask the wife).
But the other big game (no I didn't forget) was the highly touted West Virginia Mountaineers and their Heisman Trophy hopeful Gino Smith going down like a bunch of San Francisco hairdressers to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 49-14...and it wasn't that close. Look, anybody who knows anything about football can tell you when you get a team like WVU ringing up the scoreboard like it's nothing and then play a team with a good defense and good coaching (Tommy Tuberville, remember him?) well this is what you get. West Virginia is a good football team, but they ain't the fifth best team in the country! Fifth best in the S.E.C. maybe.
Oh one more note, Beano Cook died this week. Beano was what I'd term a Yankee Redneck. He was common as dirt, said what he thought with not a helluva lot of social graces. But he knew football. The New York Times had an interesting story in his obit which I reprint here without their permission because they can kiss my ass.
In one tale he often told, as recounted by Sports
Illustrated, Mr. Cook received a phone call one day from a woman asking for a
copy of the roster of the Pitt football team. Mr. Cook said she should wait
until the squad was cut, to 75 or 80 players from the original 120. “Otherwise
it’s really a waste of your time,” he said. But the woman demanded the
roster immediately. He asked why. “Because,” she said, “I want to sleep with
everybody on the Pitt football team.” Mr. Cook gasped, but rallied. “Well,”
he said, “in alphabetical order, starting at guard ... Cook, Beano.”

Romney Steps Up His TV Advertising
We've been hearing for some time now from the Romney Campaign that there would be a late, strong blizzard of advertising. Some have wondered why the Obama team had the jump on us, and why we seemed to be laying back. Looks like that was the strategy.
Now, a well-financed flurry is underway designed to close the deal. Here's a good story about it in today's WaPost.

The Veep Debate
Well, Joe Biden did what he needed to do. He threw the D's some red meat. He fought hammer and tong with Paul Ryan. He enjoyed himself immensely.
Paul Ryan also did what he needed to do. He showed himself mature and ready. He showed himself to be on top of the facts. He defended Romney well.
On style, Paul Ryan won going away. Biden's laughs, his condescension, his sighs--were just flat out annoying.
Both side's guy did what he needed to do, and both sides can take away a win from this one.
The question though--is--what will independents and undecideds think of it? My guess? Not a good night for the President. But it won't move the needle.

CW for Romney Cracks $21K
While I was away this weekend, we received a donation from a Navy vet
from Norfolk and the best real estate agent in Central North Carolina. Today, we had a very generous donation yesterday from the great state of Illinois, bringing us to well over $21K. So much so, that we are in striking distance of $22K....
Just two days until the VP Debate. I'm looking forward to this, but I warn all Romney Ryan supporters to remember that Joe Biden's been in the Senate for nearly 40 years. The man knows his stuff, he sounds the part, and he will invariably try and take the debate in the direction of his interests--foreign policy--away from Ryan's.
If Ryan wins, I don't think anyone will be surprised. It will be yet another nail in the slowly closing coffin that is the Obama Presidency.

Dirty Politics Can Backfire
Obama's re-election team made a determination early on that their guy could not run on his record, no way no how. So even though they had some distinct advantages; the power of incumbency, their press resources and the fundraising (both legal and overseas illegal), this election was going to be a squeaker. They weren't worried about their base. A few trumped up issues here or there, create a narrative like the "war on women" (with the help of the media of course) and that's done. Turnout was a bit concerning for some constituencies but when the time was right they could fire 'em up, distribute a little "walking around" money and you'll get them to the polls, no prob.
No, what they were worried about is the undecideds like the Wal Mart mom. The lower middle class female, not well educated and not particularly sophisticated. She is the classic emotional buyer. This voter makes up about 6% in swing States like Ohio and Florida and if you can win this demographic you've won the State.
So to get this voter, and those like her, it became doubly important who the Republican nominee turned out to be. From Team Obama's perspective the nominee could not be allowed to connect emotionally with the voters, most especially the Wal Mart mom. Demonizing Newt Gingrich or Rich Santorium would be easy as pie, hell they had already done most of the work themselves. But Romney presented a problem. He's a speaky clean Mormon, a family man with no moral skeletons in the closet, and he looks the part. Plus he's the ultimate pragmatist problem solver with a track record to prove it. So from CREEP's perspective what's to be done? (Committee to Re-elect the President, not really but I felt compelled to throw that Nixon reference in, they're so much alike!) Well obviously being from Chicago the playbook says hit him as long and as hard as you can in as many different ways as you can. Drive his negatives as high as possible. Make him so radio-active voters won't even look at him, much less give him a chance. Kill Mitt!
Not a bad strategy and maybe necessary but a dangerous one indeed. If voters ever got a look at the real Mitt Romney then this multi-faceted concert of misdirection, demagoguery and outright lies could all come crashing down like a house of cards. But it was working. The media did their bit, the donors ponied up, the campaign hit him with the kitchen sink and it was working, actually working. And then it all went away in an instant. Obama failed to show up debate night.
So where are we now? The bottom is dropping out of the polls and Obama's argument has been reduced to calling Romney a liar (repeatedly over and over again), and there's nowhere to go from here. Guys like Andrew Sullivan are losing their minds (see today's Daily Beast) and there's been an 18 point swing among women. And it's all because they painted such a distorted negative image of Romney that when the real Romney is revealed the efforts of the Obama campaign just look like slander...and Obama is the liar now. Wal Mart moms hate liars.

Looks Like Romney's Navy Team Has Been Busy!
Romney rep (and former Secretary of the Navy) gave a glimpse of what the Candidate has in store for rebuilding the Navy during a series of interviews this week.
Check it out here.

I'll Have a Slice
This is what the American economy looks like to a Democrat. In the words of economist Lester Thurow, we live in a zero-sum society. The pie is only so big and no bigger. If you take a larger slice then I must get a smaller slice. Liberals believe this with all their heart, and that's the trouble, their brain never enters into it.
A case in point is Robert Gibbs on "Stephie" Stephanopoulos' show this morning (by the way Stephie is an eminently fair, unbiased journalist type of guy, just ask the NY Times). While ever so gently bringing up the debate Mr. Gibbs said Romney was a liar, he would lower taxes by 5 trillion on the very rich to be "paid for" by the middle class. Of course Stephie being the serious interviewer that he is jumped all over this assertion asking Mr. Gibbs if "we would see a different President Obama this next debate?" Hard hitting journalism at its best! But he wasn't done yet. Ed Gilespie of the RNC was up next and thus spaketh Stephie "You heard Robert right there 'masterful, theatrical, fundamentally dishonest', either he's (Romney) not telling the truth about the scale of the tax plan or abandoning his economic theory...which one is it?"
Now let's put aside for a moment that even the liberal FactCheck.org has called this 5 trillion dollar figure "a totally fabricated bullshit lie" (I think I quoted them accurately), let's just take a closer look. Way back when, Reagan actually did what Romney is proposing; i.e. lowering marginal rates and cleaning out all the subsidies and loopholes from the tax code. And now, over the years, slowly but surely they have been added back in. Presently the tax code is a mess. Well maybe not if you're an avocado grower in California or a dairy farmer in Minnesota getting your subsidies. Or if you get a tax break for importing French cosmetics because some Congressman's niece is married to Este Lauder's great grandson and...you see how it works. So the point is much of this "tax cut" will be offset by critically needed tax reform. Another Stephanie (Cutter) admitted as much yesterday on CNN. But what exactly did happen after Rockin' Ronnie lowered the marginal rates? That's right kids, tax revenues to the government exploded and the PIE GOT BIGGER as predicted by the easily understandable Laffer Curve.
Just for the record, this is not an economic theory. This has been proven correct time and again and was even pointed out to candidate Obama by Charlie Gibson in the debates of '08. To which Obama famously replied; so what, we're talking fairness here, not good public policy.
So when you see halfwits like Robert Gibbs on the tube, don't think for a minute they are not being genuine. For them Romney's plan doesn't add up. For them the pie is finite. For them we live in a zero-sum society.

Hammerstophanes, The Football Philosopher: Week 6
What a week! If you're like most middle-aged men and late Saturday night consists of switching back and forth between Coed Confidential and whatever college football game interests you in a mad race to finish your cheap bottle of scotch before passing out drunk in your Lazyboy™, then do I have a surprise for you! A not very good NC State pulled off the upset against a loaded FSU in Raleigh. WOW! But it's true. FSU just couldn't shake the pesky Pack and got nickel and dimed to death with the help of a little dodgy officiating. NCSU scored the winning touchdown 4th. and goal with 18 seconds on the clock. It wasn't that State was that good, it's just that FSU was that bad. Note to FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher; the game lasts 60 minutes.
In other league news (the ACC is what I'm referring to, the rest of you can piss off) VPI continues to look like crap having had their ass handed to them by the Heels in an all white Kenan Stadium (those were the days!). Tech went home with their Hokies between their legs after a shameful performance in front of the usual Carolina contingent of radical leftists, homosexuals and shockingly promiscuous coeds. And Coach Beamer has lost a ton of weight! What's up wid dat?
Number 3 LSU went down to The Swamp and took an ass-whipping off the Gators, Oregon keeps on a rollin', SC resoundingly proved to the Georgia Bulldogs that "you can't lick our Cocks" in Williams-Brice last evening and Northwestern reverted to form and had their 5-0 record marred by Penn State, so that's probably it for them. TCU got trashed by sleeper Iowa Hay Rake...eh, I mean State (farmers teaching farmers). WVU went to Austin and outscored Texas (when will these idiots learn(?), you gotta play a man-to-man face mask to face mask defense against a team like this).
All in all an exciting week with a good few upsets. Oh yeah, UVA lost again, this time to Duke! Looks like Virginny has problems, especially at quarterback. Have a good 'un.

In Tickbite, The Times They Are A-Changin'
Down in banjo country change is in the wind. North Carolina has a history of sending ostensibly "moderate" Democrats to Congress. I'm talking about people like Bobby Etheridge, Mike McIntyre, Larry Kissell and Heath Shuler. Apart from perhaps Shuler, these guys all have one thing in common, they represent overwhelmingly conservative districts. Now Bobby was of course defeated in the midterms, Shuler is "retiring", the DCCC has pulled all their money from Kissell's district and McIntyre is running "misdirection" ads all about how he's a real deficit hawk and wants a Korean style DMZ on our southern border (not sure if he means the Mexican border or the South Carolina border). The point is the blue dog Democrat is in trouble, and I suspect this kind of scenario is playing out through most of the South. Where's the press bemoaning the end of the "moderate" Democrat I wonder?
Mitt looked fantastic the other night. I kept yelling at the TV "Now THAT"S what I'm talking 'bout". He showed the fire, the passion, the command of the facts and bearing of a President, and a winner! After all the lies and mud-slinging, all that money trying to position Romney as an out of touch millionaire, his performance was devastating (perhaps fatal) for the Democrats. As the old adage goes, nothing fights a lie better than the truth and Romney showed the American people who he is and what he stands for. But let's be frank, he needed to do this in the worst way. It wasn't just a "let's grind out a win" proposition; Romney couldn't afford to just win on points. He needed to destroy and humiliate Obama, and that is exactly what he did. If this debate had been close the press would have declared Obama the winner and the election over thank you very much everybody have a nice day. Thank God Romney didn't give them the chance.
But a word of caution: Romney doesn't necessarily have to "win" the next two debates but he does have to put in a good showing. There is every reason to believe Obama will actually come prepared the next two outings, so our guy needs to stay sharp, prepare and be ready for anything. Just keep in mind, you're dealing with thugs.
The word around the Old Well is it just keeps getting worse and worse at UNC. Of course we all know Carolina Football stinks like a Tijuana whorehouse on Mother's Day, but the "powers that be" thought they had effectively isolated the problem to the football program. The AD "Tricky" Dick Brodeur retired and Coach Butch Davis was given the old heave ho, and hopefully everything would blow over in a while. But alas, this scandal has turned into the thing that wouldn't leave. The never ending bad news is coming out in dribs and drabs, the Chancellor Holden "Doogie Howser" Thorp resigned, and now some egghead at OU of all places (who happens to be the President of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics) is calling for the NCAA to come on down to Chapel Hill and re-investigate (after declaring UNC good to go last month). This must be particularly galling for the Carolina faithful coming from some dude at a school where Barry Switzer coached and Brian Bosworth played. Jesus, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. But the worse news, the thing the Rams Club fears the most, the end of days, apocalyptic, unbearable revelation is....wait for it....Carolina Basketball has been implicated. OH MY GOD! There's much teeth gnashing and hair pulling on the Hill I can tell you. Why one would think sodomy had been outlawed. So stay tuned, it ain't over yet.

BIG FAT FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL! (on request edition)
Well this was the week that was, the one you'll tell your grandkids about. Whatcha thinking? Got any wild theories? How 'bout opinions not expressed correctly by the mainstream press? Tired of an uptight, repressed society saying your can't marry your 1963 Sting Ray split-window fastback? We feel your pain, let it all out my man.

CW For Romney Pushing $21K!
The Governor's wonderful performance last night inspired the gentleman from Virginia's Eastern Shore and the lady from Wyoming to make additional donations to the cause! I'm grateful to them and to everyone who has lent their support to this effort. We are now within striking distance of $21K.
Now is not the time to let up. You know the President and his people will be out spreading their particular brand of political nonsense, and their pliant toadies in the media will chime right in.
Please click this link to donate...to the CW for Romney Fund. It is essential that you check the box that says you know your referrer, and that when you do so, it brings up two boxes, one with "INT 2012" in it, and the other with the number "4847" in it. Debate #1--Romney
Yes, I know. I'm supporting him. I'm raising money for him. I don't like his opponent. But the plain truth is that Mitt Romney hit a home run tonight. He was well-prepared. He knew his stuff and the President's stuff. The President seemed rattled. It was clear that no one had questioned him to that extent in the past 4 years.
I think this is a pretty good night for Romney, and I hope it helps some folks on the fence come around to the sense that Romney will make a good President.
As for the debate itself--Jim Lehrer did not do a great job as moderator, but I LOVED the format. This was the wonkiest debate I've seen, and it covered a lot of ground.
Romney looked and acted Presidential. I think people on the fence can now imagine him in the job--the first step to their coming over to him.
I go to bed with a smile on my face. A good night for the Romney candidacy.

CW For Romney Tops $20K!
That's right folks, had a very generous donation today that sent us crashing through $20K on our way to $25K. What a day for it, too! I hope you're all excited for the debate tonight--think good thoughts and let's make tonight the next step in putting Mitt in the White House.

Debate Plans for Tonight
Folks, I discontinued the gadget on this site that allowed us to comment "in stream" on debates, speeches etc. It was $9 a month I didn't need to spend.
I will be live-tweeting the debate tonight (at Twitter for the social-media challenged). My handle there is @ConsWahoo and I will mark each comment with #CWDebate.
Follow me on twitter, set up a hashtag list for #CWDebate and we can have a blast.

Brains are Lady Parts Too
Maybe if we ignore it...
I have to hand it to our President, when he focuses on a problem he focuses on a problem. His problem now is getting re-elected. None of this namby-pamby prioritizing nonsense, no walking and chewing gum at the same time. He's got a job to do and no dead ambassador or torched consulate or CHINESE HACKING into the WHITE HOUSE office for NUCLEAR commands will distract him from the task at hand. Eh... that would be...I guess, fundraising in Vegas and campaigning in Ohio and politicking on The View to welfare queens and the last 23 middle-class housewives in America who haven't been forced to take a job at Target. A very determined guy our President.
Unfortunately for us, his determination doesn't extend to maintaining our national security (among other things). We all know the Libya/Egypt story, at least those of us who pay attention. And we know Afghanistan is a mess, we're up to speed on that one too. But this cyber-warfare story that the Chinese hacked our nuclear codes was buried almost from the beginning. As you may know, the Chinese have been attacking our computer networks almost daily for a few years now (CW you should certainly know this!). And not just us, they have hacked EU emails in Brussels (I'm surprised they haven't offered Barroso a job, they share the same ideology after all), Haliburton (the leftys must love that) and even a Canadian magistrate's computer. They have hacked electric grids, NIEHS, NASA and according to Richard Clarke (remember him, hardly a right winger) they have hacked every major corporation in the United States! They have embedded worms and Trojan Horses in chips and boards manufactured in China (sitting idle waiting to be activated). Our government and corporations spend billions upon billions on research and development and the Chinese steal it for a pittance.
But what does our President and our corrupt media do? Not much. It's just too distracting, must stay focused.

90th Donation to CW for Romney!
The absolute, undisputed King of Japanese Hibachi eating earns props this afternoon for his generous contribution. We've cracked $19K on our way to $25K. I have a feeling after Mitt shows himself a fighter tomorrow night, folks will bring some money out of hiding and move this count UP!

Worth the 3:44. Keep in mind what this election is about folks. Focus.
CW for Romney Nears $19K--Will You Put Us Over The Top?
CW for Romney received another generous donation yesterday from my favorite helicopter pilot and Maryland Grandee. We are $74 from $19K---will you put us over the top?
Wednesday night is the first debate, a chance for all America to see Mitt Romney stand up to Barack Obama. This is where the election turns. After months and months of campaigning, Mitt is within striking distance of a popular President with a tough voting coalition behind him. This is winnable, and we will win.
But now is not the time to let up. Huge amounts of money will be spent in this last full month of the election to bring swing voters in battleground states our way. Please, please consider a donation, or another donation.
