Debate #1--Romney

Yes, I know. I'm supporting him.  I'm raising money for him.  I don't like his opponent.  But the plain truth is that Mitt Romney hit a home run tonight.  He was well-prepared.  He knew his stuff and the President's stuff.  The President seemed rattled.  It was clear that no one had questioned him to that extent in the past 4 years.

I think this is a pretty good night for Romney, and I hope it helps some folks on the fence come around to the sense that Romney will make a good President.

As for the debate itself--Jim Lehrer did not do a great job as moderator, but I LOVED the format.  This was the wonkiest debate I've seen, and it covered a lot of ground.

Romney looked and acted Presidential.  I think people on the fence can now imagine him in the job--the first step to their coming over to him.

I go to bed with a smile on my face. A good night for the Romney candidacy.

Why even the Obamaniacs on MSNBC were distressed at the president's poor performance. Go Mitt!

  3. One of the most one-sided debates I've ever seen. I hesitate to even call it a debate. Worst than Reagan/Carter, Bush/Kerry (which Kerry won), even worst than Kerry/Weld which I saw on a trip to NH (Weld destroyed Kerry, but you wouldn't know it from the press coverage). Romney put Obama on the defensive immediately and in the immortal words of Nathan Bedford Forrest (a great American) "kept up the scare". Magnificent performance, wonderful outcome.

  4. Mr. Romney did do very well tonight. He looked good, he sounded reasonable, and he was well prepared. However, he still was unwilling (read unable?) to give specifics of how he would make his policies work.

I thought it was weird that he kept bringing up "my state" when speaking of Massachusetts as though he still lives there. How long ago was that?

And there is the important point that when he was Governor of Massachusetts, he was working with a legislature that was 87% democratic: the very people who are interested in Obamacare. The president is working with a majority of republicans who not only are against Obamacare, but are unwilling to pass any legislation that will make him look good (Boehner's tweet among other republican comments that have been made in this vein).

  8. Romney is one of the first candidates I can remember who said (I'm paraphrasing) -- I have to work with Congress to get things done, the President doesn't just dictate things to make them happen. What a breath of fresh air.

Take away the TelePrompter and the black preacher style speechifying with the congregation shouting out "dat's right" to his points, Obama shows what an amateur he truly is.
