Who would you say are the greatest double crossing, backstabbing turncoats in human history? The spies, liars and rats? Off the top of my head there's Judas Iscariot, Benedict Arnold, Mata Hari, the Rosenbergs, the Cambridge Spy Ring, the post World War II American Democratic Party (featuring Teddy Kennedy on lead guitar), Jonathan Pollard, Aldrich Ames and now I'd have to include the Republicans Mitch McConnell and John Boehner. Unless you've been under a rock the last week or two you've seen the columns blowing the whistle on these jerks, and don't think this is the fringe (like me) talking either, these are well respected writers at well respected news outlets.
I've known these guys were up to no good for a while and so have most people who've been paying attention. My question is why? Why run interference for Obama against your own party? Why work against your own party candidates? Is Obama blackmailing them? Do the powers behind the curtain believe they can succeed WITHOUT the, how will I put it(?) non-progressive wing of the party? Do they not care because the Democrat agenda is their agenda? Are these guys so insulated they either can't or won't see what's happening? Do they know the jig is up and they're just trying to do as much as they can for as long as they can before they are thrown out on their asses? What is the end game here?
Regardless, they are carrying water by the truckload for Obama's hair-brained policies and it's getting real. This Iran non-treaty is so over the top I really can't believe it. This thing has to be stopped otherwise we'll be paying for this one a long LONG time, and that's if it does what they say it will do. Worst case scenario is MIRVed ICBMs in the most volatile part of the world run by the most irresponsible leaders imaginable.
Hillary said last night this thing was the best way to monitor Iran's nuclear program. Here's a thought, maybe allowing a bunch of aggressive, radical, insane ragheads a fuqing nuclear program at all ain't such a good idea. No program no monitoring necessary. But thanks in part to our Congressional leadership, THAT solution is off the table, and make no mistake, they could stop it today if they wanted. Boehner and McConnell need to take the midnight train to Moscow (euphemistically speaking), they have been exposed and the Republican Party rank and file has lost confidence in them (to put it kindly). Donald Trump and Ben Carson are proving this reality as we speak. The point is who gives a damn what the reason is, they are not doing their job, they're damaging the party and the country and they HAVE TO GO!
I'm increasingly coming to this opinion myself.
ReplyDeletePraise Jesus, our Prodical Son has come home!
ReplyDeleteAnd exactly what should these gentleman have done that would have resulted in sufficient votes to reject this agreement? Yes, we would like to see more evidence of good tactical thinking and the urge to fight, but success is more important than simply showing Cruz-style posturing (and I deeply admire Senator Cruz, but he has yet to show success in either strategy or tactics).
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is willing to move every lever available to him, even in despotic extreme, and his party is willing to follow in lockstep. I'm beginning to think it is better to let them have their agreement and suffer the consequences along with the rest of the world. Let them poison their party's brand for another decade or two, and if war is inevitable, let the next President work in America's interests, this President will never do so.
I don't envy Boehner and McConnell, their jobs are harder than it appears, and they are acting to preserve the Constitutional and Congressional institutions for a better day, when the White House is not occupied by one intent on trashing them.
Ever heard of Corker-Cardin?
ReplyDeleteI disagree strongly Brady. They have retreated on the cronibus, Obamacare, amnesty and now on Iran that will be impossible to reverse. Your notion they should just let the Democrats destroy themselves is childish sophistry of the highest order. Giving Iran Carte Blanche to spread mischief throughout the world along with allowing them nuclear weapons while guys like you are throwing their toys out of their pram in a fit of rage is just silly. They might destroy themselves, but they'll take us with them.
ReplyDeleteOne last thing. Did they not tell us in the campaign of 2014 their highest priority was to defund Obamacare? Did they not tell us Obama's executive amnesty would be "defended"?
ReplyDeleteTell me, what have they done? Name ONE thing!
And Cruz has been unsuccessful because his milquetoast (when it comes to fighting Obama) "team captains" grew a nub of a testicle between them and put it to use fighting, and abandoning Cruz and his fellow Conservatives. Another possibility is Obama has NSA files on the two of them...but I go with Hammer's theory that they are at their core, "progressives".
ReplyDeleteHammer, how could the available votes have stopped the Iran agreement? They can't litigate that it was obviously a treaty and therefore subject to 60 percent affirmative approval, the case law and court precedents grant the Executive broad powers in foreign policy, and a determined President with full media and Party support can delay and refuse to acknowledge jurisdiction. Without Corker-Cardin's passage there was never any requirement for ANY input from Congress, given those established rules, and no way to change the rules against the determined opposition. Without a reliable sixty-vote bloc in hand the adversarial system gives the ruthless Executive the upper hand, whatever promises were made in 2010 and 2014.
ReplyDeleteWhat you would prefer is that Republicans and Conservatives play by Obama's Chicago Way/Alinsky rules and just get the desired result done, trash the rules and grab the power. No thanks, I'd rather we restore order, hold on to the House and Senate, and clean up the messes with a new President. In time enough Americans will be horrified by the Obama era abuses, as earlier Americans were by the odious Wilson Administration. Bring on our Warren G Harding to clean the stables!
So, if I'm understanding you Boehner and McConnell are fighting the good fight against insurmountable odds and we should applaud them for their efforts. Warriors to the end, Spartans at Thermopylae kinda thing?
ReplyDeleteWTF are you smoking? But let's say that's true, then why did they promise so much in the campaign knowing they couldn't deliver? Why put up token resistance (AT THE MOST) and go through the motions if their intentions were not to deceive? Do they not have the power of the purse? Could they have not stopped the cronibus? Could they have not defunded Obama's executive amnesty? They did NOTHING overt or otherwise to stop what they had screamed from the treetops was their TOP PRIORITY!
Look, a treaty is a treaty is a treaty. The Senate has a Constitutional role in the process.
"The Constitution provides that the president "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur" (Article II, section 2). The Constitution's framers gave the Senate a share of the treaty power in order to give the president the benefit of the Senate's advice and counsel, check presidential power, and safeguard the sovereignty of the states by giving each state an equal vote in the treatymaking process."
Please explain to me what we, those opposed to allowing Iran a nuclear weapons infrastructure while guaranteeing their security and giving them billions to underwrite terrorism, got by reversing this with Corker-Cardin? "Without Corker-Cardin's passage there was never any requirement for ANY input from Congress" Mr. Brady, if you think for one minute the Obama Administration would unilaterally go it alone with an insane agreement like this Iran deal and open themselves up to the political firestorm to follow, then you need to rethink your position.
It's true, the President does indeed have a lot of leeway in foreign policy. The executive is the governing branch, they need that flexibility. But a treaty has to be ratified and if this ain't a treaty what would it be called? Both Congress and the administration shit all over the Constitution in this whole sordid process.
You know what I think? I think the Republicans are desperate to win back big business money, money they had an exclusive stake on until Bill Clinton. When the banks got into trouble with Mexican loans they went to Reagan for a bailout. He refused. When the same thing happened under Clinton, he ponied up with taxpayer money. Since then Wall Street and the Chamber have LOVED Democrats. It's capitalism without the risk; profits are private, losses are picked up by the taxpayer. Obama whole cheap money agenda has benefited the investment class to the detriment of the working and middle class. Big business likes Obamacare and HB1 visas, so the establishment Republicans like Obamacare and HB1 visas, but they can't APPEAR to like them. It's all a Kubuki dance for the low-info crowd.
Lastly I urge you to give up this "all thing come to those who wait" strategy". It's a loser's philosophy. Wait around and all you'll get is the fat chick that smell like cheese, the donut with a booger on it and the flat dregs from the bottom of the keg. Losing begets losing and winning begets winning. Waiting around like George McClellan for just a few more regiments will get you just what it got him, zilch. The future is now.
