The Beer Summit

Well, the President, the Vice President, and the nation's most famous "disturbing the peace" duo sat down for a frosty mug last night in the White House gardens. I saw some of the breathless coverage on CNN as it was happening, and it was pretty pathetic (the coverage, that is).

All in all, I think this was a smart move by the President and well-executed. Crowley continues to impress ("Two gentlemen agree to disagree on a particular issue") and I think the President has pretty much tamped this one down (until Gates decides to sue the police, at which point all bets are off).

I was enamored with the President's "cocktail party" receptions earlier in the Administration, but I haven't heard much of them lately. I'd hoped he would keep them up. It is a bit ironic that a guy who doesn't drink is so very much interested in a President's having a few drinks with his co-workers....but I have this "MadMen" inspired view of the world that the late 50's and early 60's were a civilized time, and that there was very little a late-afternoon martini wouldn't improve.

  1. I love that term "breathless coverage". CNN should change their logo to an oxygen mask. They are the masters of breathless coverage. It's actually become reliable enough (that a CNN reporter or commentator will hyperventilate adoringly over the President or his family) that it might make a good basis for one of Sally's drinking games.

  2. It all looked about as comfortable as smoking a joint in front of your Priest.
Every white guy older than six has experienced unreasonable, illogical, uncontrollable black rage. It occurs when a black person screws up and decides they should get a free pass due to: a) 400 years of slavery (add ten years every six months) b) Jim Crow laws wiped off the books over forty years ago c) someone involved has a Southern accent. This is a very effective tactic on the weak minded and guilt ridden. I am neither. Did you notice Gates? He sat down and you could see the rant. What are the odds he had absolutely nothing to say about his abusive (and dare I say stupid) behavior but plenty to say about the injustice of being Black in America. The fact is the guy is just another race hustler trying to get famous. And what Obama is doing getting involved is this crap I'll never know.
