Alternative Energy vs. The Environment, Round 59

Senator Feinstein (D-CA) acts to take prime solar/wind farm land out of contention.

Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) says it best: "I’ll believe it’s a crisis when the people who keep telling me it’s a crisis start acting like a crisis."

  1. Another classic is the Swiss engineer who, apparently following their national cheese metaphor, drilled an array of holes deep into superheated bedrock beneath the village of Basel to extract geothermal energy. Unfortunately, when pumping water (the heat transfer medium) into these incursions, the rapid expansion to steam alledgedly caused a nearby fault to shudder just a tad (series of temblors with a 3.2 max on Richter). So, a bunch of residents, whose walls, subsequent to the shakes, apparently took on that cheese metaphor as well, sought retribution in court. G.O. Thermalguy faced up to 5 years in Swiss prison (wonder if the walls there have holes in them). Late breaking news: he just got acquitted. Turns out, prosecution couldn't prove he intentionally set off the quakes. Classic. Oh, and apologies for overdoing the swiss cheese thing. I imagine some of you aren't very fondue my puns.

  2. Hey Amboy! That is Twentynine Palms. God's Country! All that is produced out there is suntans and crystal meth. It is also the number one UFO spotting site in the country. The meth heads go to amboy crater and stare into the sky and see what are undoubtedly military exercises going on and report them as UFO's.

Yes, by all means save this area from producing green energy.
