The Horrible Scourge of Sizism

Saturday's New York Times shed much needed light on one of our nation's most pressing social problems, and that is the horrible scourge of sizism.  That we today, advanced 21st century beings that we are, would be ruled by so primal and irrational an instinct as to turn to the human of greater size for leadership and wisdom bespeaks a tribalism and infantilism that I had hoped we'd moved beyond.

Join me in rising up against the horrible injustice of sizism, so that we together may someday judge a man not by the length of his trousers, but by the content of his character.

  1. Spoken like a man three standard deviations from the mean...on the short end.

I recall watching a program a number of years ago - a John Stossel, maybe - groups of women were presented a lineup of 8-10 guys, all of roughly equal facial attractivenes and body proportions, dressed nicely. The women all went for the taller guys.

They then gave fictional biographies for the men to see if that would influence the womens' choices. They skewed them further each time. By the end, the shortest guy was a multi-millionaire tech entrepreneur and philanthropist, the tallest guy was an unemployed surfer. MADE NO DIFFERENCE. The women always went for the taller men.

  3. I like the study they did where they had guys hit on women. The women described the ugly guy's advances as "sexual harassment" and the good looking guy's, well as something else entirely.

  4. And to be short AND fat is double the indignity.

Not fat...vertically challenged, but ladies take note...I have unusually large hands and feet...draw your own conclusions.

I am hurt Bryan that you accuse me of such hurtful remarks concerning your size. For I only consider myself a giant because I am able to stand on the shoulders of a giant such as yourself.

  8. I have never had an issue with dating men who aren't tall.(Obviously.) I simply prefer that they be at least as tall as me. Does this make me enlightened, or just plain weird?
