The Goal: 150's by 50

THIS
On December 27, 2014, I turned 49.5 years old. On that date I weighed an astounding 198.8 lbs.  It is astounding for two reasons--the first is that some of you may have noticed that I am not necessarily a very tall man.  So 198.8 lbs is not a flattering mass for someone of my modest height.  The other reason it is astounding is that some of you may have noticed as well that I am not without a touch of vanity, And for someone who has such a positive estimation of himself, corpulence of this degree is a stark discontinuity.

Egged on by General Dan and in service to both my height and my vanity, I have arrived at a 2015 weight goal of "150's by 50".  That is, on the morning of my 50th Birthday (June 27th) I endeavor to weigh something less than 160 lbs.

I enlist you, my friends, readers, and trolls, to join me in this quest.

In the regular semi-recurring "Big Fat Friday Free For All" posts, I will update you on my straight-line progress toward this goal.  Possibly with graphs.

TO THIS!!!
In the comment section (of the blog, not Facebook), I invite those of you with a goal for the year to report your progress on it.  Weight, exercise, gardening--whatever it is you want to achieve this year, shout out in the comment section.

Oh, and this is NOT an invitation to advise me on how to do this, or how you did it.  Thank you.

  1. I have a goal of under 140 by my 40th birthday on June 7. I am currently at 170...was 192 on Dec 6. Under 140 is a tad thin for me...im 5'8" and not small chested and not 18 and I've had 4 sections in the last 5 years working against me...but its the principle...i need to see something under 140 even if its one day before I'm 40. It's happening.

At least 31 pounds to go! May the odds be ever in our favor. ;)

  3. My target weight is 200lbs., and I have about as far to go as you.
Tell you what, we will weight in at your birthday celebration in June and whomever has achieved their goal (or come closest) will received a meal of their choosing at the restaurant of their choosing at the expense of the 'out-of-control disgusting fat loser with the food addiction'. (I always wanted to meet Wolfgang Puck)
    What say you fat arse?

  4. No Hammer. I am going to do this because I want to do it, not out of a sense of competition. But if you need incentive, I will buy you a steak dinner in Raleigh should you achieve YOUR goal, as a sign of my great support for having you around a whole lot longer. What say you, Stumpjumper?

  5. You just don't have a gambler's soul. It's not about motivation, it's about the buzz.

  7. Presently 57yo, weigh approx 195 (and it does not feel good), need to be ~180. Ending 2014 with an hour walk, companion BFF a cup 'o Joe.
Nose to the grindstone - hopefully! Short term resolution, clean out junk drawer. Start small.
    Thank you for this blog.

  9. Remember: A good diet trumps exercise. A lot of people want to work off the weight with a jog but it is far easier to lose it by cutting calories. You can't out-exercise a bad diet. Sugar is your enemy.:)
