Wahoos Dump NC State 70-62

This was Coach Bennett's first ACC game and his first ACC win--and it was on the road. NC State's program's in a bit of trouble these days, but a win's a win.

  1. Congrats to Virginia for a great comeback on the road.
Three trips to the Final Four, two national championships, arguably the greatest player in NCAA history (David Thompson), the inventor of ACC tabacco road basketball (Everett Case) and look at us now. Heartbreaking.

  2. NC State is a great program and won't be down for long. And of course, they won the greatest college game ever played....

  3. I don't have to look. 1974 ACC Championship game Maryland/NC State. I heard the game on the radio at a microwave site in Vicenza, Italy and almost tore the radio out of the rack.
The only thing I regret about that season is that Maryland went home. They had lost their first game that year to UCLA in Pauley Pavilion on a last second, pull it outta your ass pis-in tip by forward Dave Meyers.
That year on any given night, Maryland, UCLA or NC State could have all beaten each other...and Maryland went home. Terrible.

  4. But that's when winning the ACC Tournament really meant something....

  5. Just consider it payback for '83 when we gave Ralph Sampson & the boys ass-whippings in both the ACC and NCAA tournaments. That was tough.
Hey, we've hit on my one claim to fame. I used to kick the livin' hell out of Dereck Whittenburg (State's shooting guard) on the ping pong table in the student center. Beat him like a runaway slave.

  7. The first casualty of political correctness is a sense of humor. I am a white Southern male; the most universally vilified, ridiculed and slandered subset of Homo sapiens in the World. Until me and my culture are treated with dignity and respect, I reserve the right to say any damned thing I please when I please.
Furthermore, I have never met or heard of anyone in all my life that wasn't demonstrably racist. It's the nature of our being.
And one last thing, I poke fun at my own ethnicity (or lack thereof) all the time. Am I a racist in that context?
