Weiner Comes Clean

Finally announcing what had come to be obvious, New York Representative Anthony Weiner admitted that yes, that was his member on the Twitter feed and that yes, he had sent it.  Along with lots of other similar kinds of pics.  He announced this at a teary-eyed media circus--a a Mark Sanford a couple of summers ago.

The media were justifiably all over the Sanford story--here was a conservative, married, God-fearing Governor sneaking down to South America without telling his staff.  The hypocrisy was manifest.  The media is all over this one too (though some conservatives think insufficiently, looking for a double standard), but hypocrisy isn't the issue.  As I said in an earlier post--Democrats aren't the "family values" party and they don't wish to be.  Scandals like this one are reprehensible in and of themselves--but in the case of a Democrat--there's not much here on the hypocrisy charge.

What strikes me about the difference in the Weiner and the Sanford cases was the motivation.  Sanford's wrongs--while many--were clearly the actions of a man in love (he is still with the woman).  He said it right there in the news conference.  Weiner's actions?  What motivated him?  Doesn't seem like love to me.

  1. This is conduct unbecoming and the guy should be expelled. He's been married 10 months and he's tweeting photos to coeds?

Anyway it's soon to be a moot point because Breitbart claims he has an xxx rated photo he's holding in reserve, in case Rep. Weiner fails to see the light. And talk about hard-ons, Breitbart has a big one for Weiner, and Weiner knows it. He even apologized to BB during his "Come to Jesus" speech yesterday. Nuff said.

  2. As Tina Turner once musically asked, "What's love got to do with it?"

  3. Yes, I shook a 3rd martini when I heard the apology. You are on the right track Hammer. If he say was the XO or CO of a ship or squadron, there would be someone else sitting in his chair this morning, answering the phone, "Captain". Conversely, he still gets to vote on promotion lists and confirmations, and will continue to do so until he is, or hopefully is not re-elected.

  4. What about the national security implications? I don't know, call me crazy but if an intelligence outfit got hold of something like this they could turn the guy into their boy.
I know, that's oldthink, but that's what I was taught.

  5. This IS all about love. Weiner loves himself more than anything else in the world, and is compelled to share his awesomeness with young women.

  6. I can't wait for all these women to come forward and start their media tours.

  7. I wonder if he's ever sent a photo to Debbie the Doltish.

  8. Let us be frank. This scandal has not petered out yet, by a long shot. The length and breadth of this scandal have yet to be penetrated by the mainstream media. We need to erect a monument as a warning to others who would do such things.

  9. I have seen a screen grab from the Opie and Anthony show, purportedly to be the x rated shot that Breitbart alluded to. While it is only picture of a picture, it did not rise to meet my expectations, and came up a little short of the mark for a controversy of this size.
