Do we get to see one of those fitness infomercial before and after photos when you've reached your goal weight? I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the numbers you are putting up.
It was only 29 years ago, Bryan! I still don't know how you didn't know Mom was pregnant!
The economy is at the abyss and greater challenges are coming.
For me I am close to cashing in the program that became a 201K last year and is now a 301K, taking the penalty and the cash and converting to gold as in holding on to the metal.
The bellwether metric to me is the hidden unemployment numbers (those currently on compensation vice having signed up for compensation) and the coming disastrous fall to Christmas shopping season that will force many small businesses to close & that trickle down will cause the recession aftershock that the government downplays and the economists are all looking for.
We live in interesting times. Who is Obama's puppet master?
How about "Cash for Flunkers?" Is your kid an idiot? Are you getting low educational miles out of him? The government will let you turn him in and adopt a more studious Asian child with $4500 off the adoption fee.
Or how about a "cash for bunkers"? Does your bunk-mate have high bunk mileage? Is she (easy ladies! OR he) unreliable in getting you where you want to go? Trade her (OR him) in on a newer, better built model of your choosing and the government will kick in $4500 (the remnants of the tax dollars we just took from you after we skimmed it to keep our own government jobs) to help pay for your attorney.
And Happy Birthday to sister Kelly (I'm assuming you are CW's female sibling and not his nun). And, I thought I'd ask, is that 29 in woman-years or Earth years?
None of my business, got it.
Why should fishermen be left out? What about Cash For Lunkers? If you catch a big fish, it should certainly be worth $4500 to the government. They can then feed a homeless person with it. After all, this regime certainly appears to be more in the 'give a man a fish' camp than the 'teach a man to fish' camp.
Riffing of Mudge...and this might help our growing healthcare costs. "Cash for Chunkers/Plumpers" Significant (double entrendre alert) other causing you to get less than optimal mileage on your newly swapped for Clunker ride?
Sally - I believe the proper biblical reference is "Give a man a fish, he'll feed his family for a night. Teach a man to fish, he'll be late for dinner every night."
Former President Bill Clinton recently returned from a private citizen trip to North Korea (for some reason, my version of Travelocity just can't seem to get this private citizen a connecting flight there). Anyway, he went there to get two other private citizens out of North Korea
(WHAT GIVES? Am I the ONLY private citizen who can't get to this beautiful resort country?)
Sorry, focus Mudge. Okay, Mr. Clinton went there to see if he could speak, US private citizen to North Korean Dear Leader, about returning two young female reporters working for former Vice President, Emmy Award winner, Noble laureate, duly-elected President of the United States during the first "second Bush" Administration, university professor (avec et sans barbe)(deep inhale), inventor of the internet and discoverer of Man Made Global Warming, Albert Gore. These two reporters apparently made the decision to travel to North Korea without properly following North Korea's visa rules and ended up "detained".
So, here is my question (mercifully): isn't anyone asking the question of our former VP, along the lines of:
"WTF were you doing telling people under your employ to not only put their own lives at risk but to also place the national interests of the rest of the citizenry in jeopardy as you used your elite little circle of colleagues to give this megalomaniac Jong Il any measure of international recognition?"
Or is Al Gore also within media's self imposed off-limits zone in this unbrave new world?
Going to be tough to follow the great question posed by Mudge. Ugh.
http://rothkopf.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2009/08/06/is_pakistan_really_the_most_dangerous_country_in_the_world
The author describes Pakistani society as "hugely complex and deeply conflicted, that this is a largely dysfunctional country in which a modicum of political unrest is the best one can hope for during the foreseeable future," and that "we will someday look to the Bush administration's complete caving on sanctioning Pakistan for developing its nuclear program in order to win a strategic advantage in the war against al Qaeda and the Taliban, a mirage at best, as perhaps the biggest of all its big foreign policy errors."
Bush and Pakistan (Musharraf)...On a foreign policy blunder scale of one to ten. One being "no blunder" and ten being "metaphysical blundertude." What say you?
I fully intended to post an in depth view of my understanding of society as it exists tody, but the one tenth of one percent improvement in the unemployment rate has me so giddy that i cannot think straight. You are the man mister President!
Mudge
They also say, "Build a man a fire, your warm him for a night. Set a man on fire, you warm him for the rest of his life."
The American Medical Association has weighed in on the new Health Reform Proposals:
The Allergists voted to scratch it,
but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.
The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it,
but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.
The Obstetricians felt they were all laboring under a misconception.
Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted.
The Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!"
while the Pediatricians said, 'Oh, Grow up!'
The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness,
while the Radiologists could see right through it.
Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.
The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the
Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter."
The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward,
but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.
The Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas,
and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.
In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.
If you are bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, look in the mirror and repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms occur:
My present and future financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of
Barack Obama
Joe Biden
Harry Reid
Nancy Pelosi
Tim Geithner
Emmanuel
Chris Dodd
and Barney Frank!
If that doesn't scare the shit out of you, then you are probably destined to be backed up for the rest of your life.
There is no need to thank me for this advice; I'm just doing it as a public service.
Anonymous, Thank you for the advice. But next time, please post a warning before asking me to do something that has such a side effect or I will be obliged to send you a laundry bill for my trousers. What a mess...but it DID work!
The 10 mysteries of human behaviour that science can't explain
#6 - Picking your nose: the unappealing but common habit of ingesting 'nasal detritus' offers almost no nutritional benefit, so why do a quarter of teenagers do it, on average four times a day? Some think it boosts the immune system.
Yo may need this boost to the immune system in lieu of Obamacare.

Umm, you posted a link to your own computer....
Yes yes. Happy birthday Kelly. Once a Rose of Tralee contestant from Philadelphia, which for some reason makes me think of a beautiful orchid growing out of a pile of dung. Her hubby David is a lucky man even though he is... well, Irish ('nuff said about that).
Happy birthday Kelly from your redneck, loud-mouthed, opinionated, boorish and crude friend.
Back to bidness. Our beloved Prez. got on tv and crowed about the unemployment numbers and how we are headed in the right direction etc. If you look carefully you'll see they subtracted the folks who have stopped looking for work so the actually number is about 9.8-9.9%. I know, they all do it, but to spin this as a huge improvement is nuts.
Granted, Obama is just doing what any politician would do but don't be fooled. Obama was right about one thing, this is the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and it's mostly thanks to him.
Oh Jeez, Robert Thorn's comment is brilliant. Is there a program for wives I wonder?
