- Republicans have a lot more to lose in this battle, and we're doing so spectacularly
- Obama and Reid have held the whip hand throughout; Boehner did the best he could to "fight the good fight", but there was never a chance of "victory" and there was little appreciation of the costs involved.
- I have a great deal of sympathy for the concerns and positions of members of the House from the Tea Party caucus. It is their strategy and tactics I cannot accept. They have never articulated a "Plan B".
- "Repealing" and "Unfunding" Obamacare were always quixotic undertakings, especially given that the votes simply never existed to do so. Shutting down the government and flirting with default are increasingly seen by apolitical and non-aligned Americans as petulant and reckless. Because of the strategic ineptitude of the Republican House, the epic failure of the rollout of Obamacare is a non-story. Truly important stories of people expressing considerable shock at the cost of Obamacare are elbowed out of the news cycle.
- Republicans are most deficient in the lack of a healthcare plan of their own. They have never articulated a coherent plan that would gain the votes of a majority of their own caucus. Saying "no" is simply not enough.
- The depth of my disdain for Harry Reid knows no bounds. I believe I actually prefer Pelosi. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
- I'm a big fan of Leon Panetta. His take on this mess is pretty sound. Especially like his view of the role of the President.
- I find myself somewhat wary of one thing that may actually happen when this is all eventually worked out, and that is that the "sequester" will be relaxed or removed, without any tangible spending cuts. Let's face it--the sequester has worked, and our deficit is down in part because of it. If we get rid of it, I want to see some budget discipline in its place.
- Although I would cry no tears of Boehner falls over all of this, I have no good recommendation for who should replace him. Someone I know and respect who works on the Hill has a lot of respect for Eric Cantor, but I'm just not sure.
- If--as some believe--really, really bad things happen to our economy if we bust the debt limit--will my friends in the Tea Party be even the least bit chastened? Will they admit that they were reckless? Will there be any accountability?

LOL! Just saw a video in which Hussein's fellow Africans in DC blame the shutdown on Bush

That is a absolute TRAP. We don't need an alternative plan other than the free market and maybe FREEING the free market to be able to work in its natural form. In other words deregulate so insurance can compete across state lines and put a stake in the grotesque abuse that is the personal injury law system. How may know that doctors pay tens of thousands of dollars some over a hundred thousand a year in practice insurance (divide that by patients). How many know if you walk into a doctor and say you are paying cash no insurance that your bill mysteriously falls in half.
Want to look at failure look at boehner and McConnel mealy mouth attempts to make even prepared statements compared to Cruz/Lee in fighting and making coherent cases under fire at their different media blitz.
06' the repubs lost because they took a majority and wasted it on doing it dem light and running up debt/graft
08' the repubs didn't get their act together and lost even worse trying to be dem light with their candidate and policies
10' tea party revolt based on anti-ocare and BUDGET SANITY SMALLER GOV
12, Repubs threw away the lessons used dem light policies and their candidate and what do you know loss
14? Are we setting the stage for copying our 10' win or more of the same we saw in 12' 08' 06' etc..

That is a absolute TRAP. That is why there has never been a entitlement that has been eliminated even after being proven horrific failures, to the point of even being devastating to the beneficiaries.
