What Should Come Next for the GOP?

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the Republicans take the Senate and extend their majority in the House.  What comes next?

I'm not exactly sure--but I do know one thing.  I want Mitt Romney to be in charge.

So here's what I propose.  If the Republicans take the Senate, Mitt comes to DC and sets up shop.  Gets an office.  A staff.  A press operation.  And he starts running things.  Like a Boss.  Two or three speeches a week, in town.

Mitch McConnell and John Boehner--guess what--you now answer  to the man who got 61 million votes in the last election.  HE sets the agenda.  HE dictates the terms.  HE talks to the Press.  The two of you have proven your incompetence in leading--get out of the way now and let a man who knows how to lead, lead.

GOP Pro-Consul
Mitt lays out strategy--comprehensive Party strategy--not House Strategy, and Senate Strategy.  You, the conference chairs, the whips--you all work for him.  If Mitt decides to run for President, so much the better.  If he doesn't, the GOP gets his leadership for at least a year.  The country will be better off either way.

That would work if the GOP wants to regain credibility. But you know that the Ted Cruz types will balk at that because they want to be king.

A shadow government? What a great idea but let's get real, Boehner and McConnell wouldn't go along for a millisecond unless there was a gun to their head. Does Romney have the horsepower to be an unelected Boss Hogg? I don't think so.

Why does anyone even bother voting anymore? Romney came out in favor of global warming and minimum wage.

Here in TX, Rick and the comptroller arm twisted Amazon for sales tax revenue.

I have yet to see Republicans abolish any laws, agencies, or tax while in the majority.

He has what they lack--star power and gravitas. They would ignore him at their peril.

I like the idea CW, but I don't think it would work for 2 reasons:

1) When John McCain ran against Obama in 2008, he had the advantage over Obama on experience and gravitas . . . until he gave away that advantage by choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate. In the same way, you don't want Romney as your point man for the Republicans. Don't get me wrong, I like him & gladly voted for him . . . I thought he was just what the country needed in 2012. Here's the problem - if you assume Hillary is the nominee-in-waiting for the Dems, then you want someone to contrast w/ her. Romney gets beat up for being an out-of-touch rich guy who hob-knobs w/ fat cats, so the Republicans can hardly use that club on Hillary "we-were-flat-broke-but-now-I-charge-a-bazzilion-dollars-per-speech" Clinton as long as Romney is their point man. Hillary is old, tired, and out-of-touch - Republicans need someone to contrast w/ that;

2) As soon as the mid-terms are over with, attention will turn to the 2016 election. All those Republicans who are seeking the Presidency aren't going to want someone else cluttering up their message.
