Tigerhawk on Bin Laden

"Second, I think we need a national consensus that Seal Team Six and the accompanying CIA dudes never again pay another bar tab. Sixty years from now, we need to be picking up the drinks for these guys. I also liked this quip: “Dude who nailed bin Laden will never be ‘one-upped’ anytime he’s in a group swapping war stories.”

I'm With Mudge---Rot in Hell

It's 0518 on Monday the 2nd of May, and I've just come out to my office to start my day's labors.  This blog is my home page, so when it opened and I saw Mudge's post with Bin Laden's face--I feared the worst--as I had not heard anything last night.

I, like many others, have longed for this day.  Like many others, I began to despair of its ever coming.  Now that it is here, I find myself without the right words.  So many emotions, so many memories.

I offer my thanks and praise to the men who ended Bin Laden's sordid existence.  The report I just read on FoxNews stated that they were Navy Seals--if this proves true, then I am all the more proud.

I am proud of my President for having the courage to give the order to kill this man, deep inside Pakistan and in a house 100 yards from the gate of a Pakistani military academy.  Pakistan has some very important questions to answer this morning.

I am proud of the national security team, who obviously thought through the ramifications of how this all should play out--that a dead Bin Laden is better than a live Bin Laden; that a body represents a rallying point.  Dumping his body at sea (or at least reporting that is what has been done) is the right move.

I am grateful to the men and women who have served and in some cases, died, in order that the rest of us might see this day.

I wonder what will be the reaction from the world's Islamic people?  Will they recognize the improvement of the world condition in his killing?  Or will they take to the streets in classic "Death to America" rage?  Today's a George Bush day my friends--you're either with us, or you're with the terrorists.

I wonder what will be the Kitten's response when I wake her in an hour, as my place here was created by the evil thoughts and actions of the man now decomposing in the sea.  I have seen in her the very essence of Christian thought and deed these past four years, as at no time have I ever heard a word of hate or anger toward this vile mobile dungheap.  This day, I believe she deserves a moment of justice-driven satisfaction.

Former Leader of a Nation Accuses Own Nation of Human Rights Violations While Shilling for Former Nation's Avowed Enemy

"What idiot would do such a thing?" you ask?

Here are some clues: Jimmy and Carter.

Shortly after the election of Barak Obama in 2008, Former President Jimmy Carter, realizing that his lock on the title, "Worst US President in Modern Times," was just 4 years shy of being broken, set out on a plan to forever enshrine himself as the "Worst Former US President EVER."

Ever since the American electorate (mercifully) ushered Mr. Carter into the ranks of former Presidents back in 1980, he embarked on a steady but effective plan to enhance his qualifications for this highly revered place of stature among progressive Americans. He slowly but steadily added to his qualifications over the years since leaving office, but he is apparently worried that if he doesn't pull out all the stops now, while he is still able, he will lose the title in 2013 when American voters help the Obama family relocate their residence. This week, on behalf of another glorious leader named Kim Jong-Il, Former US President and Present Traitor-in-Waiting Carter accused his fellow countrymen and women, the whole lot of us, of human rights violations for withholding our food contributions to North Korea just because they want to build nuclear warhead tipped missiles that could kill us human rights violators who were sending them our food.

Listen to what a lifetime of eating liberal swill does to a brain:

Chairman and General Secretary Kim Jong-Il sent word [through former President of the United States, me] that he is willing, and the people of North Korea are willing, to negotiate with South Korea, or with the United States, or with the…other five powers…on any subject, at any time, and without any preconditions.

And for the South Koreans, and for the Americans and others, deliberately to withhold food aid to the North Korean people, because of political or military issues not related, is really indeed a human rights violation

The next time you find yourself outside the United States, "Dontcome Back, Carter"

A Wonderful Trump Take-Down

The Donald
As many of you know, I've not been a fan of Donald Trump's recent emergence as a potential Republican Presidential candidate.  I think he's a boor.  I think he's arrogant.  I think he's a ridiculous self-promoter.  I think his beliefs written on an Etch-a-Sketch and his credentials as a Republican are laughable. But if you really want a good Donald take-down, read this.

Prison Guard or Harvard?....Prison Guard or Harvard?....Decisions, Decisions

A truly great example of how out of control public sector spending is in the People's State of California.

Keynes v. Hayek Round 2

I'd love to have had either of these guys for Econ when I was in college.  Really creative stuff here.  I've thought a lot lately about putting learning to music, as one of the kittens couldn't seem to remember how to find the area of a trapezoid, yet could remember the lyrics to every single (wildly inappropriate) song we hear on the radio....

Barack Obama Slay's 'Em

You know, I've seen these White House Press Corps Dinners for years now, and it seems that the President's part in the play is always pretty well done--irrespective of the President.  Talented writers, comfort in front of crowds, it all works.

To his credit, President Obama is the best I've seen--he's got pretty damn good timing and a great delivery--not to mention the little interstitial chuckle he throws out there now and then.

The first 18 minutes of so of clip on this page is of the President's speech.

Seth Meyers Kills It

The annual White House Correspondents Dinner was held in DC last night, and the entertainment was Saturday Night Live writer and Weekend Update correspondent Seth Meyers.  Check out his performance below--not a good night to be Donald Trump.

Sorrell v. IMS Health, Inc.

It's not every day your employer gets to plead its case before the US Supreme Court, but that was the case with mine earlier this week. A group of companies, led by my employer, sued the State of Vermont over legislation the state passed restricting the sale and provision of physician prescription information. IMS argued, among other things, that the law violated corporate free speech.

For those of you interested, a video summarizing both side's arguments can be found here.

Dr. K on Leading from Behind

Charles Krauthammer once again nails it.  President Obama is turning out to be inept in virtually all important areas of foreign and defense policy.

The Royal Wedding

I missed it, was caught up in other things.  Some good photos here.

Because I Can....

GWB, mountain biker:

BHO, not.

L'Affaire d' Birth Certificate

Well, it looks like this one is finally over.  Why it took so long to happen is beyond me.  Was the President trying to teach us all a lesson about privacy?  About propriety?  Dude, you're the President, and you could have settled this four years ago when you started the run and doubts were first raised.

That said, Donald Trump is a pimp and a showpony, a Republican of convenience, and a ridiculous excuse for a human being.  His picking up the banner of "Birtherism" was pure political opportunism, wielded by a man whose primary political aim seems to be using the "threat" of a run to drive interest in his other projects.

Perhaps now we can start talking about important things, like Mr. Obama's reckless debt expansion.

Obama, Ideology, and Competence

This will be a short little whip of a post, one I need to get to in order to break the streak of postless days I accumulated whilst bandying about the Caribbean avec mon chaton.

Since the time Senator Obama sewed up the Democratic nomination for President, I have been fairly critical of him and his policies on largely ideological grounds.  I knew as soon as he won that I was in for four long years (at least) of being incredibly at odds with the Administration.

That said, I allowed myself--like many others--to be lulled into thinking that while I wouldn't agree with their policies, at least the Obama team was going to be competent.  He seemed to do a good job assembling a cabinet and White House staff, and the transition seemed to be handled with aplomb.

Here we are, two years into the term, and not only do I disagree with them ideologically on almost everything--I now have come to question their basic competence.  You name the issue--especially in the past year--and they just don't seem to have it anymore.  Not only that, the President seems downright ambivalent about the job.  It seems they "shot their wad" on health care--and they simply have nothing left.

We Shall Overcome...

What's going on in the world today when a perfectly good white transgendered woman can't take a pee in McDonald's without getting the crap kicked out of him her?

"The police report does not provide a motive, but quotes one of the suspects saying that the fight was 'over using a bathroom'."

Ah, diversity.
