It's a TV Show, People

The entertainment world was shocked last night when Bristol Palin survived elimination and will now go on to compete in next week's finale of Dancing with the Stars. This sat poorly with Palin Hater Nation, but 67-year-old Stephen Cowan of Wisconsin took an unusual tack with his frustration: he shot his TV with a rifle. He claimed she was a bad dancer [she wasn't great] and was only saved because of her mother. For those of you that don't watch this dumb show that I rarely miss, dancers receive scores from professional dancers that are combined with viewer votes. If viewers aren't feeling you, you get sent home. But...IT'S A TV SHOW. It's astounding how the mention of the Palin name completely unhinges some people.

However, I can empathize with Mr. Cowan as I get a similar urge when I turn on the TV and hear our President talk about puttin' cars in ditches, Slurpees, or 'communication' missteps.

Pretty common in WI, when the Packers lose a close one to the Bears. Old man threw a cocktail glass thru the TV screen, as the shotgun was not handy.

Testing the system

It's not necessarily an irrational act. Elvis shot a television showing a Robert Goulet performance. Sounds reasonable.
Look, every time I see Joy Behar I feel like reaching for the 9.

Thanks for this post, Sally. (I doubted that CW himself would cover this topic.)

As a conservative and a dancer, I am embarrassed that Bristol is still there. I fear that this season will not end well. If Bristol wins, I'll be one of those outraged people. (Luckily, not to the point that I'd brandish a firearm.) This outrage would stem not from an anti-Palin stance but almost from the opposite place. I think it's ludicrous that DWTS is being treated as a political statement, and I think we look like idiots for doing so. Letting Bristol Palin be sent home from DWTS is NOT a rejection of the Tea Party or conservative principles, for heaven's sake. Can't it just be about the dancing?

I concede that it's possible that I'm a little too worked up over this. After all, it's JUST A TV SHOW.

I hear you PK. I too hoped for her departure in week 4 or 5. But EVERY season someone gets unjustly sent home early. If Bristol were anyone else's daughter, don't you think we'd be rooting for her since she's such an underdog?

They need to revamp the voting system. Let the judges vote count for 50% in week 1, 55% in week 2, etc., so that by the time they're down to 4 the judges will have 90% of the say.
