Big Fat Friday Free For All

All Time High (April 1 2009): 192.2
Diet start (June 1): 189
Last Friday: 175
Today: 176.6
Goal: Sub 150

Wow. Demoralizing. Livestrong calculator projects me at 1823 (net) calories a day to lose 1.5 lbs a week. I averaged 1510 calories a day (net) this week. And gained 1.6 pounds. Completely demoralizing.

Oh well. Back in the game.

What's on your minds, Team CW? Had enough of that "Global Warming" yet? Tired of the snow, and the mud, and the muck? Ready for the Super Bowl? What's your prediction?

We're hunkering down on the farm this weekend to ride out the blizzard, so I hope to spend a lot of time on the blog.

Well, you've discovered there's more to weight lose than counting calories.
Let me tell you a story to illustrate my point young man. In 1983 I was hit head-on by a drunk driver (yeah I know, ironic isn't it). Anyway, I spent three months in the hospital flat on my back with my own litter box and everything. So, after the first couple of weeks the life threatening stuff was over and all I had to do was lay there in traction and heal. Very boring.

What is one to do pray tell? I read (The Arms of Krupp was one), I listened to music on a Sony Walkman Cassette (Synchronicity / The Police over and over and over) I watched TV (the networks plus public) and I ate. And boy did I eat.

I had cookies, candy...all kinds of junk food, and I ate constantly. I ordered pizza or subs at night, every night. I must have been taking in 10,000 calories a day (and by the way it's kilo-calories) I kid you not. And the weight poured off. I was in my twenties at the time so I wasn't overweight (maybe a small beer gut) but whatever fat was there, went. And I know a lot of muscle atrophied which would account for some but the point is, with an absolute sedentary situation, eating high calorie fat/sugar laden food, I was losing weight.
According to the nurses this phenomenon isn't uncommon. So there's something else going on other than some simple equation. The person who identifies a way to control this mechanism will win the Nobel Prize (all of them), amass a fortune overnight which will equal the GDP of Japan and be revered and loved in way only Gandhi or Obama could understand.

My advice, just turn into the skid. Eat a healthy diet, stay away from the junk as much as possible and live with what you get. God gave you your body type and I believe when someone through whatever means turns themselves into something nature didn't intend (Kate Moss comes to mind), they hurt their health.

Am I the only one that thinks Professor Obama is avoiding the press? If he can't lecture give a speech or campaign he doesn't participate. Am I wrong?

Every time he speaks I hear Sammy Davis Jr singing with one slight exception:
Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with choc'late and a miracle or two
The Obama Man, oh the Obama Man can
The Obama Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun and make a groovy lemon pie
The Obama Man, the Obama Man can
The Obama Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

The Obama Man makes everything he bakes satisfying and delicious
Now you talk about your childhood wishes, you can even eat the dishes

Oh, who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Obama Man, oh the Obama Man can
The Obama Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good

The Obama Man makes everything he bakes satisfying and delicious
Talk about your childhood wishes, you can even eat the dishes

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Obama Man, the Obama Man can
The Obama Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Yes, the Obama Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
a-Obama Man, a-Obama Man, a-Obama Man
Obama Man, a-Obama Man, a-Obama Man
Obama Man, a-Obama Man, a-Obama Man

I feel your pain CW. Due to last Friday's dinner at Maggiano's, Saturday's Maggiano's leftovers, and a 10,000+ calorie party on Sunday, I crept up from 188.5 to 189.1

I really thought that along with 2-a-day workouts, a sensible diet the rest of the week, and all the snow shoveling last weekend; that I'd have at least stayed at 188.5

But at least I'm better off than the Baptist missionaries being held down in Haiti. Any chance that Barack Hussein will remember that he is an American (at least that's what the Democrats keep insisting)and tell the Haitian government to release those idiot innocents?

Allowed 2400-2800 calories to maintain 185. Still walking brisk 30 minutes daily and maintaining between 185 and 187, but disapointedly, my BP has gone back up :(

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

CW - inspired by your usage of Livestrong - I began as well. After about 3 years of finally getting to sleep on a fairly regular schedule and eat something not prepared in a galley... I'm back at the fitness kick - began slowly back in December trying to remind my legs how to run... January has been a success - fairly regular once again, doing something at the gym 3-times a week... I've a long way to go to get back to my "fighting" weight.
BTW - Colts win, we'll call it due to the Brees Freeze...
