Osama Bin Laden, Green Terrorist

Does OBL's recent audiotape decrying the US role in global warming signal a new, responsible, statesman-like direction for the world's most famous terrorist? After all, he's now on the side of the Copenhagen crowd. Oh, and he thinks undermining the dollar is a good thing, too. Hell--he keeps talking about things like global climate change and a new world currency--he'll find himself on the docket at Davos.

Harsh Winter A Sign Of......Here It Comes......Global Warming!

Well, not really. The actual term is "climate change". Bothered by the growing evidence that the Earth hasn't in fact warmed to any real extent in over 7 years, high priests of the secular religion of environmentalism have changed the narrative from "global warming" to "global climate change". Just in time too, as the harsh winter weather this year just doesn't fit well in the prevailing narrative. These people are shameless.

Scientists Who Need Scientists

Are the luckiest scientists in the world. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has announced that they will be moving the hands of their famous "Doomsday Clock" via live web feed this afternoon. The last time the clock hands were moved was in 2007, when they were moved to the five minutes to midnight position to call attention to the failure to solve problems posed by nuclear war.

Speculation is that the BAS will do their peeps in climatology (who, after all, are still feeling a bit wounded by Climategate) a proper by moving the hand closer to midnight to reflect the growing global menace posed by anthropogenic global warming.

Personally I feel the global threat posed by Islamic jihadists to be a bit more menacing and immediate, but AGW "deniers" aren't known to break into people's homes brandishing axes when their sensibilities are called into question.

Update: Whoops, I never could tell time correctly. The BAS has decided to move the had back to 6 minutes to midnight, citing (ever-so-subtly) the tireless efforts of The One in reducing the world's nuclear arsenals, lowering sea levels and healing the planet.

Remember folks, in setting your Doomsday Clocks, it's Conservatives forward, Obama back...

Fido Is Worse Than Hitler

In news that will certainly stir the pot between cat and dog lovers, a study released by New Zealanders Robert and Brenda Vale claims that dogs are one of the worst eco offenders, surpassing the environmental damage of SUVs.

The study estimates that a medium sized dog equates to an annual footprint of 0.84 hectares, twice that of the footprint left by an SUV driven 10,000 kilometers a year. Cats fare much better, with an eco-footprint of about 0.15 hectares. But unfortunately, they don't fetch sticks are are twice as likely to save themselves while allowing you to perish in a barn fire.

I was a bit dubious about the "credentials" of the study authors, so I did a bit of Google sleuthing and, sure enough, found that the study was underwritten by none other than....Mr. Tinkles.

A Jonah Goldberg Tour de Force

Nice work here from my favorite modern Conservative thinker--a thoroughgoing skewering of environmentalism and its ties to/cover for more nefarious movements.

Al Gore: Beatnik Poet

Former Vice President Al Gore has apparently taken to poetry to get the AGW message out.
Cool daddy.

AP: Climategate Scientists May Be Devious, But AGW Science Beyond Reproach

The AP's climate guy Seth Borenstein attempts to rally the AGW faithful against a rising tide of skepticism:

After an "exhaustive review" of the "stolen" (some say leaked) Climategate emails, Borenstein and his staff conclude that scientists may have indeed engaged in deliberate stonewalling of skeptics and mismanagement of data, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the science behind AGW conclusions was faked.

Or does it? The folks over at Watts Up With That? examine some of the raw data vs. the "smoothed" data and some away with some different interpretations.

Climate Change Whitewash Continues.....

The WaPost's Juliet Eilperin spends two dozen paragraphs telling us about the challenges facing those who would wish to enact measures to limit man's contribution to global climate change without a single reference to the scandal raging in the world of climate science as a result of the hacked East Anglia emails.

Update: A friend refers to this as akin to "your dog eating your homework".

Iowahawk on Climaquiddick

Rand Simberg seems to have coined the Climaquiddick phrase (though I can't seem to find where--I only find others referring to him having made it up--sounds like Biblical research)--referring of course to what he suspects will be the media's attempt to "whitewash and minimize" the growing scandal of global warming sycophants.

Apparently, the incomparable Iowahawk has gained access deep into the Climate Change Tower of Orthanc (or East Anglia University, as it is known in Middle Earth).

Every time I read the words "East Anglia", I think of Monty Python sketches--whenever "East Anglia" was cited, they'd pause on the first syllable just a tad too long---as in "East Ang.....lia".

WaPost Reports on Growth In Nuclear Power's Popularity

Here's an interesting story about one of my favorite topics, nuclear power. The US--land of cheap coal and natural gas--has fallen way behind in our nuclear infrastructure. The spectacular startup costs are at least partially to blame, with a significant portion of that cost coming from the protests and lawsuits that are sure to attend new construction.

Hopefully that tide is turning. There are presently 22 reactors before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and many in the Obama Administration are seeking to stoke additional interest with federal loan guarantees--something of which I am very much in favor.

And from the Rahm Emmanuel school of never waste the opportunity created by a crisis--I'll turn a deaf ear to the anguished cries of the global warming crowd, as it is their frenzied kvetching that is causing the environmental movement to become less opposed to new nuclear--citing its abiding carbon neutrality.

We should move forward with nuclear energy for one reason and one reason only--diversifying our energy supply. We cannot ever hope to mitigate the control exercised over us by oil producing nations if we do not move to some kind of alternate energy for the movement of vehicles on our roads. To me, electricity is the natural path. To respond to an exploding demand for electricity (in a carbon neutral way, dearies), we must invest in nuclear power.

Anthropogenic Global Warming A Lot Of Hot Air?

The internet was abuzz this morning when news broke that the computers at the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (aka - Hadley CRU) were hacked overnight and over one thousand emails and other documents were released into cyberspace.

Allegedly, many of the emails suggest that much of the AGW information disseminated by several prominent climatologists over the last decade or so either exaggerated the true impact of AGW or suppressed it altogether.

Uh oh.
