The First Post

Well, here it is....my entry into the blogosphere. I have a lot to say, and I hope some of you might find some of it interesting. I am a white male in my 40's, a graduate of the University of Virginia and politically conservative. I served for over 20 years in the greatest Navy on the face of the earth, and I recently retired for greener pastures. My time on active duty was wonderful, but deep participation in the political process cannot be a central facet of a military man's life. Now that I've retired, I look forward to sharing my opinions on politics, world affairs, economics, social issues, pop culture and current events. I look forward to your comments and your comments on my comments. Four rules will govern this blog, and they are 1)keep it civil 2) keep it clean 3) keep it relevant and 4) keep it coherent. I will try to follow my own rules as best I can.

I will try to post daily, but I cannot be held to that.

I am surprised to not see listed under Pet Peeves:
Waiters / Waitresses who ask, "Would you like change?" when you pay for your meal.
And, I am honored to make "first tracks" on this Blog.

Oh my, Dan...you're right on target. I despise that moment when you are obviously paying with cash, and the server says, "would you like change?" No, I think you really earned that 47% tip, and so I think you should have it. I'LL TELL YOU if you don't have to bring me change....don't ask!

Great stuff! I don't imagine I will be commenting too often as I have real difficulty being relevant or coherent - much less both at the same time.
I do want to thank you for opening my eyes to the fact that I was born to work in Corporate Human Resources.

OK my brother the Conservative Wahoo, one of my pet peeves - if you will - is also on your list as 10. Corporate Human Resources offices.

I submit to you that corporate America (and corporate 'world' for that matter) began its slow, torturous death spiral circa late 80's when the Personnel Department was renamed Human Resources.

What do you see in Personnel? Yes indeed, the word person. What does Human Resources conjure up? How about this - chatel? I'm now a resource, just as land, F&F, buildings, machinery are. How exciting, I'm a "movable article of property"! Wait a second, chatel...hmmm..oh yea, CATTLE!!!

Best to you bro. TIA.

OK Cruiser Deity, a peeve of yours is coffee served in clear glass mugs - check. One of the items you're interested in talking about in world travel - especially Italy - check. Let me combine these two items to mention something Italy has taught me. The lesson I learnt from 8 days in Tuscany? Slow down, relax, and savor what goes on around you. Every single day in Italia began for at a bar usually around the "centro historico" in such towns as Montepulciano, Siena, Casole d'Elsa, Radda in Chianti, Massa Maratima, etc, sitting outdoors under an umbrella sipping away on a cappuccino out of a cup and saucer. After the third day I realized the sin in ordering a cappuccino "to go" as we are so apt to do. A cappucinno is not meant to be all jumbled up in a styrofoam cup and consumed on-the-run. It is meant to be savored while sitting and enjoying conversation. Or, just sitting there, smiling, watching and thinking, "Sic transit gloia mundi" A very humbling experience.

TIA - Doc Milnamo

I give it 5 years, give or take, before you lose your enthusiasm and your readership bottoms out. But fear not, your as yet unidentified, and eternally unpaid staff of writers shame you back into paternity of this blog and after a slow start, readership returns on the heels of some fascinating correspondence from the middle east. But that's just a guess.
