Good day, my friends, and welcome to the Big Fat Friday Free For All. What's on your mind? Anything really making you say, "What the hell?" Where is the country going?

Now's your chance to sound off, whatever the topic.

Things might be a little light from me this weekend, as I've got some family travel in front of me.

In view of your significant weight drop I believe you can no longer call this "Big Fat Friday.." Given that you've announced your intention to scale back on CW blogging this weekend, perhaps you should rename this post "Weak End Edition"

C'mon, CW...do you think Thomas Paine ever scaled back because of family travel?

Seriously, have a good weekend.

Well as Kurt Cobain said, "I've got a new complaint".
Congress in their wisdom decided there would be no COLA this year for SS recipients. Oh well, tough times, everybody has to take a bite. But then El Presidente says we're gonna give $250 to every senior which it just so happens is what the COLA would have been anyway.
There's a few of things going on here. First Obama gets the credit from the oldsters for what essentially is an automatic increase. Second, the conservatives who bitch about how we can't afford it are put on the defensive and seen as anti-crone. And third, Obama reassures the zimmer-framers that he is on their side, so come on board this health care reform with me, I've got your back.
A grand Machiavellian manipulation, and nobody sees a thing.

Oh, what do readers here think of the Vitter (R-LA) amendment to add an 11th question to the census questionnaire: Are you an American citizen? Would be used solely to determine state representation in Congress. Could not be used for funding nor for INS prosecution.

Outrage? Racism? Back to pre-Civil War? Too late--all these have already been used.

My feeling? It doesn't go far enough. Illegal is illegal, and it doesn't matter if you came here in violation of our laws from Mexico or Saudi Arabia or Norway, Why in the hell is it my responsibility to pick up your expenses when you broke into my home?

How about that hat rack 'news' anchor this week introducing Jesse Jackson as Al Sharpton? If this had happened on Fox, the screams of 'see, they all look alike to those racists' would be at fever pitch.

And Mudge, that is a breathtaking no-brainer to me as well. I haven't read anything about it-is it being met with outrage?

Sally - Yeah, the one about harkening back to pre-Civil War times came from some talking head in the White House.

Here's Dad's "Strategic Stimulus Plan" for Social Security recipients. When you get your $250 check, flip it over, sign it, endorse it to "Cantor for Congress" and send it to Eric's campaign office. Then post an e-mail to POTUS at www.whitehouse.gov letting him know what you've done with your gubmint check. That oughta get Rahm's head to spinnin'.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm taking my staff out for a pint. Have a great weekend everyone.

John S - I didn't need to meet your dad to know that I'd admire him. Duck hunter, Virginia gentleman, man of principle. This idea of his is ingenious, but not surprising. I only wish I was getting a check that Obama stole from the taxpayer for which he then took credit so I could do the same. Hell, I may just take my own money and write His Excellency a letter telling him I was so inspired by your dad that I felt obliged to follow suit.

BTW - Did you do any good in September teal? Hoping for some of Al Gore's global warming to fail this winter so we can get a good push of fowl from the north.

Mudge,

No teal this far west. We got our fill of woodies. I've never figured out how those little bombers can fly full speed into their nest cavities and land without harm. They take the same approach to landing in a beaver swamp...noisy, clumsy, and nearly impossible to hit with a load of hevi-shot. Every morning it was: up long before the buttcrack of dawn, slog our way into the swamp, fifteen minutes of frenzied flight at first light, done by 0715. One of our hunting partners (the "Benelli Brothers") won't go in the early season...too scared of reptiles. That's ok; more for me.
