UVA Basketball Has A New Coach
UVA has apparently hired Tony Bennett (I know, I know) to be its new men's basketball coach.
I've never heard of the man. He's been at Washington State for three seasons--in the first two he took his team to the NCAA's, this year he was 16-13 and a first round loser in the NIT.
Where did the rumors of Tubby Smith and Jeff Capel come from, I wonder? Are UVA hoops fans that delusional to think that a program that has won exactly one ACC tournament in its history (1976--Ralph Sampson never won an ACC tournament title) can really compete for coaches at that level?
To say I'm a little let-down is an understatement.

Tony Bennett comes from solid Wisconsin, Big Ten stock. Get ready for some zit-backed hulking big-man basketball. Don't be let down just yet.
Let's not be too upset. We may lose, but we'll have a really good-looking coach!
Dan, he played at UofW - Green Bay.
Whink, roger that. Was talking where he got his first coaching chops as an assistant coach under his dad and Bo Ryan.
how about more conservative and less wahoo?
Agree 100% with PK. And right now, we can't turn our noses up at NIT (wins or losses) given where we've been the past too many years.
PK and CCE...you guys think Tony Bennett is good lookin' only 'cause he reminds you of your favorite blogger..... :)
As usual, CW, you are correct. That is, indeed, exactly what I was thinking. Tall, handsome, 30-somethings of Italian descent invariably remind me of you. As does Tom Cruise...
I think I may be watching more college basketball next year...
not sure of his genealogical background but Bennett is an Irish name with some English links.
