Ramesh Ponnuru of National Review is an ardent pro-life voice AND a conscientious voice against torture. A correspondent challenges him to explain why he spends more time and effort on abortion than on torture by saying (among other things):
"Torture seems to me to be worse than abortion since it involves the state directly committing an evil instead of just tolerating one. To say nothing of the rule-of-law questions."
Read Ponnuru's whole response here. It is a masterfully reasoned, clearly written bit of English. You may not agree with Ponnuru's conclusions or his views, but his logic train is stunningly coherent.
