Dear Poland, Happy Soviet Invasion Day. Love, Uncle Sam
"[T]he timing of today’s [missile defense] announcement was, at least for Poles, inauspicious: Today marks the anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 (pictured here), a point that has not been lost on the Polish press."

Haven't they gotten over that YET? Jesus, Gorbachev said he was sorry. Talk about holding a grudge.
In that neighborhood, it helps to have grudge, ie. a long-term view and elephant-like memory.
Don't worry Poland and Czech Republic. There will be many more "allies" thrown under the bus with you. Enjoy the company.
correct me if i am wrong, but didn't the previous administration ensure us that the system would not be aimed at Russia. Moreover, who is more important to our foreign policy interests? Russia -- oil and tech or Poland -- keilbasa... Is it possible we are we are actually addressing our national interests?
Hey Bub, it was a DEFENSIVE system, it ain't aimed at anybody. Let me put it in terms you'll understand. If my neighbor wants to wear a bullet proof vest because he heard I own a firearm, I don't have a problem with that. Unless of course I'm up to something.
Anon - Fair enough question. But it sort of reminds me of the guy who is short on cash until payday making a deal, in his supposed interests of financial stability, with those strip mall "CASH ADVANCES--No Credit Checks--No Payments Until Payday!" clowns scrunched right amidst the tattoo parlor, bail/bondsman and pawn shop. It comes at a price. And trust me, this novice administration is dealing with the pros and it's going to get OUR asses kicked.
Bub here, bet the Russian don't view it as a defensive system. Moreover, Russia has many carrotts and sticks that could be used to influence Iran. Once again, on this particular subject Obama seems to be taking a healthy long view.
Mudge, I accept your opinion, however i disagree. I think the last admin was dangerous and we are slowly returning to a more realistic FP.
