Barney Frank's Culpability
The more I learn about this financial crisis, the more I come to see Barney Frank as a real contributor to it. Jeff Jacoby agrees. The Bush Administration worked hard in 2003 to try and rein in Fannie and Freddie...you remember them, the guys who twisted the arm of mortgage lenders across the country to lower their standards so less-credit worthy customers could purchase mortgages (that Fannie and Freddie then purchased from them). Barney Frank led the charge against the big, bad, racist Bush administration, who he painted as trying to deprive low-income people of the American dream. Those chickens have come home to roost (thank you Reverend Wright)

Interesting reading if you go to the 300+ posts attached to the article. Some pretty good tits-for-tat on both sides of the discussion (even if many of them would end up the victims of "liberal use of the trash button" if they were here in The CW.
