African American Support for Obama

My friend Chili keeps asking me for data on the levels of support for Senator Obama among African-Americans....I keep telling him that I'll do it, then I forget to.

Then today I read this article. Yep, you read right. 95% to 2% in favor of Obama.

No racism here; move along.

Not suprising, especially since AO support for Kerry was at 88%.

If you're asserting that there is no component of the 95% that is voting for Senator Obama BECAUSE of his skin color, then we disagree.

I speculate that there are as many people voting for Barack Obama because of his skin color as there are who won't vote for him because of it.

This all has me wondering, if his parents were a white American and a black African (Kenyan), why is he considered "black" when he is equally "white"? How many white progenitors would there have to be in his lineage before he would be considered "white"? Not that it really matters, I wouldn't vote for him if he was gold, I just find this whole discussion interesting. By the way, how many generations of, say, a family who emigrated from Italy to the USA, must there be before the offspring stop claiming they are "Italian"? Likewise, Obama can correctly, as opposed to "politically correctly", claim he is African American. For many Americans who are black skinned, it sure has been a heck of a long time since their ancestors resided in Africa. As for me, I'm plain old American. Since I was born here, I suppose I am a "native" American. But I don't think I qualify to claim being a "Native" American. Too bad, would like to qualify for some more benefits and they have kick ass hunting grounds in South Dakota for free if you are a capital "N"-ative American. And to acknowledge all those in this hemisphere who claim also to be Americans, I suppose I am more accurately a native North American from the United States of America but they never include that one on the race blocks of government questionaires. I've checked. So I just have to mark "white" or "causcasian". But Obama can't. So who makes those decisions?

The determining factor as to Obama's race must be: Would Jesse Jackson cross to the other side if he encountered him on a darkened street at night?
