A nice piece of work here by the editorialists at the Post, urging President Obama to take on the forces (largely in his own party) who are cluttering the stimulus bill with expensive, non-stimulative measures.
I wonder if the New York Times will reach the same conclusion?

The NYT isn't ready to slit its own wrists yet. Deep down in their heart of hearts, they are hoping that there will be provisions in the stimulus funding package to help out failing major newspapers and other media.
No, the NYT will not reach the same conclusion. Good thing too, since the conclusion is stupid.
Even more important, the situation has already changed dramatically. We now know that there is actually very little 'pork' in the bill. Most of the talk about 'pork' is simply Republican lies.
But there is something even more important. As the Econ Nobel Prize winner argues in http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/06/opinion/06krugman.html?_r=1&em we must pass the stimulus bill -- warts and all -- ASAP, even though the Repub tax cuts do nothing to stimulate the economy.
We have run out of time.
