Yes, where did our Socialist go? We are potentially so screwed it isn't funny. Barry O is "moving to the right" (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink lefties...it's just temporary as I pull in some on the right and the middle ground so that I may win in 2012...then we'll have lots of National Socialist fun!)
1. North Africa (Tunisia/Egypt). What happens if Mubarak falls? Should US support our $70B ally or support democracy. Can we do both? Who is next? 2. Prognostications on debt limit clash looming. 3. Charlie Sheen. Hernia or another drug/pornstar-induced ailment? 4. CW's plan for health improvement.
I finaly got around to reading "The Politician" by Andrew Young. Of course it's about John Edward's campaigns, etc. What's amazing is most of my surmising about the man and his wife have been verified by the author. I concluded the man was basically apolitical and that his wife was the driving force. Confirmed. Don't get me wrong, Edwards is a bright guy but he's a good German...that's it. Elizabeth Edwards was a self-centered, demanding, bigoted fat little bitch. She led the guy around by his nose. With all those groupies throwing themselves at JE I'm surprised he didn't go off the reservation long before he did.
There's a couple of things that stick out in my mind. One, Edwards was a big Carolina basketball fan. That doesn't happen. JE got his degree from NC State. You are where you got your undergraduate degree from. He may have gone to law school at Carolina but that's just training; nothing more. This is indicative of a character flaw not to be ignored. It may sound like nothing but it's a big deal on Tobacco Road. The second is Elizabeth's abhorrence of anything "redneck". She was a military brat, born in Japan, and she repeatedly denigrated Southerners and Southern culture. She despised Edward's family. She made John Edwards a liberal, she made him turn his back on his school (too redneck) and she drove him into the arms of another woman. My conclusion is it's good he's not President because without her he's a ship without an anchor, a little boy without his mother.
The Blog: A compendium of thoughts on politics, world affairs, economics, pop culture and social issues, from the center right perspective of me--Bryan McGrath--a University of Virginia graduate who spent a career in the world's greatest Navy keeping my mouth shut about politics and social issues (ok, publicly keeping it shut). Those days are over! Pull up a chair and chime in where you will. Keep it clean, civil, concise and relevant.
The Fish: The fish is a "coat of arms" for the blog, symbolizing three formative influences in the life of the blog founder. The first is his experience at the University of Virginia--symbolized most importantly by the fish itself, or a caricature of a "Wahoo", the fish we have acquired as an informal nickname. Additionally there is the sword, the sword of a Cavalier. It is not wielded in a threatening manner, as this is a civil blog. But it is there, should it be needed. Thirdly, there is the influence of 21 years in the Navy--symbolized by the anchor on the Wahoo's fin (and again, the sword) . Finally, there is the bowler, tuxedo, and monocle, symbols of a refined, intellectual conservatism, or what I seek to encourage here.
The Policy: I take FULL responsibility for what I write. I will not be held responsible for the content of my comments section--as long as it is civil and passes my own inscrutable sniff tests, it will appear. If the comment offends you, that is on you.
