Scott Brown Does Exactly What Scott Brown Said He'd Do

For all those weeping great big conservative tears of regret that Scott Brown hopped on the Harry Reid jobs bill (a.k.a Stimulus 2 (Lite)), go back and read the things he said and how he said he'd vote. It should not surprise ANYONE that he, Snowe, and Collins voted for this bill. This is the best we'll get from Republicans in New England, and that's OK. Brown never wrapped himself in the conservative mantle, rarely espoused conservative rhetoric, and proudly calls himself an independent. Keep in mind--we took Teddy's seat--but we didn't fill it with Jim DeMint. We filled it with the best deal we could get.

Brown's big problem politically is that the more he comes (over time--remember, this is one vote) to vote like a Democrat, the greater will be the argument to replace him with one.

He's just the lesser of two evils. And you guys wanted us to send him money. Lord have mercy.

He was our only hope to stop the health care locomotive as it careened toward the town square. He's still from Mass so no matter what, he's going to vote like a Dem--unless they mess with the Mass health plan. A lot of people in Mass are upset by the Mass health plan. That they would be more upset by the Fed Health Plan is telling. Forget abortion coverage, the bill, in all of its Cybilesque personae, is itself an abortion.

I have zero beef with the guy voting with the Dems on this 'jobs' bill, we knew this was going to happen and as long as it doesn't happen on health care or card check it's all good. But I wonder...Scott Brown's gotten a ton of press and he may just love the attention. What better way to keep it alive than to vote unpredictably? No one's talking about the other 4 Republicans who voted for this thing, or about Ben Nelson--they're only talking about Brown. Did Olympia Snowe or Kit Bond issue a statement yesterday, or if they did, did anyone care? Everyone talked about Brown's official statement. Time will tell if his votes will indicate an independent but principled nature or desire for celebrity and need to stay in the news.
