So, about once a week me and the Sgt. Major like to watch a movie together. You know, get a little snuggle time in front of the tube. She forgoes her nightly episode of "The Real Housewives of Tickbite" and I take a break from internet rants and naked girlfriend websites.

This week's selection was "The Lovely Bones". This was a about a young teenage girl who was murdered by a single middle-aged male who lived across the street. The movie sucked; it was tedious and a bunch of scenes reminded me of 70's era Herbal Essence shampoo commercials, you know all LSD inspired morphing flowers and trees.

Now I like a good serial killer movie as much as the next guy, but I don't know, this one just struck me as anti-male. We've all known nerdy sorta asexual guys who like to build Heathkits. The Army was full of 'em. Barracks rats who didn't like to hit the bars and always had a Popular Mechanics laying around. They were harmless and actually pretty handy sometimes (I had one help me modify an old Harman-Kardon pre-amp once upon a time). The point being, just because some guy is single, and he's nerdy and he sticks to himself doesn't mean he wants to bury your teenager alive.

Jesus, kids don't even play outside anymore without a gaggle of Moms huddled up like a swat-team in their "designated" play area. When I was a kid (shut-up, I know but I'm trying to make a point) anyway, when I was a kid my parents didn't know where I was most of the time. I mean they knew I was in the neighborhood but I could have been anywhere. And if I screwed up, somebody else's parents would drop a dime on me to my parents. That's how it worked.

We've lost something here, we're paranoid about our children and I think movies like this don't help.

Some folks priorities here in North Carolina are something else. Here the nation is going in the pits and the local newdpaper's (News & Observer) two inch headline yesterday was the firing of UNC head football coach "Butch" Davis. Same deal today with the resignation of the athletic director. NASCAR winners get the same treatment.
