On Mr. Fenty's Loss

Here are a couple of good reads on the subject.

First, Reason's blog has a pretty good screed on the teachers union's big victory in the city.

Next, the weekend WaPost had a very interesting article on Mr. Fenty's loss.  Lots of  discussion of Mr. Fenty's being out of touch with the black "community", but also a pretty solid case for the view that the "community" sees the city education system NOT as a venue for educating its youth, but as a jobs program for its adults.  You get what you pay for.

Don't have to read 'em. It's been clear for a long time that the teachers union and a large segment of the community despised anyone coming in to kill their cash cow to make educational burgers for students. This same element who would make train wreck and criminal Marion Barry their mayor for life tells you all you need to know about the people holding our nation's capital hostage for a never ending ransom of government sponsored payoffs. They want to be a state? Fine, give 'em to Maryland. They'll fit in just fine in the peoples' republic.
