Ruth Marcus on Sotomayor

Ruth Marcus tells us today how reasonable and moderate Judge Sotomayor is, so I suppose we all now should just accept it.

C'mon Ruth....she says in a written speech later turned into a law review article that she believes her ethnicity lends itself to better decision making. Add to this, a President who has convinced us all that empathic yearnings make up an important part of his philosophy on judicial nominations, and we're left with no recourse but to believe Sotomayor at her words, and believe the President at his.

There should be no suggestion that she is not qualified. There should however, be a rousing debate on her judicial philosophy and the role that intangibles such as her ethnicity play in it. Republicans should be pleasant, respectful, amiable, and then vote no.
