Was Holocaust Gunman "Right Wing"?

Eugene Robinson reflexively points to the right wing media this morning in fanning the flames of "lone wolf" acts like the one by the idiot at the Holocaust Museum.

Putting aside for a second the media's near silence on the identity/religion of the recruiting station killer recently (too busy with the abortion doc killer, who fit more neatly into the narrative), Robinson makes an tangential assertion in his column here....that von Brunn was a right winger. What evidence does he have?

Well, he hated Black people. And he wrote anti-government screeds.

But he also hated the Jews, and Israel--hardly right-wing positions these days, what?

Oh, and he also wrote anti-corporation screeds.

Why is it then that he fits so neatly into the "right" side of the spectrum. Truth is, he doesn't. He's simply a hateful, evil old man who defies political labeling. But that doesn't fit the narrative either.

UPDATE: Mudge, feast your eyes on THIS gun show! I happen to be sitting in GHP's dorm room.

Apparently, so does Jeremiah Wright and I wouldn't exactly call him a right wingnut.

When the Muslim killed the two soldiers in Arkanas two weeks ago the Today show would not even announce his name the morning after the killings. The museum killer struck at lunch time and by dinner time we knew his entire history.

Ironic though was that same morning the story came out about Barry O's spiritual advisor, Jerry Wright and his claims that "the Jews" were keeping him away from Obama.

I guess that makes Jerry Wright a right wing hate monger. Or beter yet... a "Wright Supremicist".

CW, I believe Bill O'Reilly retracted or stepped back from his initial complaint that the media wasn't covering the Arkansas killings. This video shows a pretty extensive amount of coverage on CNN, including the fact that they were the first to publicize the gunman's religion, a bit of data you don't often see in many reports of murders (except in the case of the murdered one, if a religious bias was given as a motive).

I don't think it's really important to blame one of the 'wings' for this despicable nutcase. Although I might jokingly say that you right-wing types are spouting crazy talk, I don't think that anyone across the political spectrum is any more or less likely to be criminally insane, although obviously it does point them in some specific directions when there's an evil group of people (on either side) manipulating and whipping followers into a frenzy.

But I do think it's important to push back a bit on you if you are trying to say von Brunn is left-wing.

I think he's being associated w/right-wingers primarily because he has posted (and commented vigorously) on RW sites like Free Republic and has written several of the email screeds that were disseminated by email by others who are considered RW.

Little Green Footballs site profiles von Brunn as an ardent and vocal Ron Paul supporter.

He's vehemently anti-abortion and has written on several other of the typical RW hot topics.

Also, he's violently anti-Liberal, as you can see from his posting on the Ron Paul site.

Et tu, GHP? You KNOW my biggest peeve is people reading what they want into my words:

"But I do think it's important to push back a bit on you if you are trying to say von Brunn is left-wing."

Not only was I not trying to say he was left wing, but I did NOT say he was left wing.

No, you didn't say he was left wing. I also didn't say that you said he was left wing -- you may be reading confrontation into my words. One of my pet peeves, stop it or I'll punch you in that well-muscled arm.

"But I do think it's important to push back a bit on you if you are trying to say von Brunn is left-wing."

A bit of precautionary language in case you or others are heading there (lots are) - glad you are not.

There was also evidence that The Weekly Standard's office was a potential target; their address was found in this dude's truck. Wouldn't it be interesting to see the media's reaction if heaven forbid something had happened over there?

We'd hear crickets, I'm sure.

CW - I've only seen you with those other two arms. Where have you been keeping the above-referenced spare?

Don't hate, Mudge.

did anyone notice Rush's pitch stating that the Gunman was a left winger. I believe he started this ridiculous discussion.

GHP, spot on again.... moreover CW's sentence was poorly worded.

Ahh, yes, the candles were an obvious indicator that we were studying, the Old Dorms had terrible electrical issues. And I believe just out of the shot was the dogeared copy of Das Kapital we were poring through while discussing dialectic materialism at that point, right?

(can't believe you slipped this by me, just noticed it!)
